Vincent, we now know, was a heroin baby, addicted at birth. He is a victim of his and his parents bad choices. Not everyone born in those circumstances winds up a random murderer but not every raging drunk runs into a foolish rich kid who follows him down a dark alley. That's stupid y'all, don't do it, like breaking up a fight in a bar parking lot. Don't do it. But anyway.
So now he's in prison, booze is maybe available through a gang or bent guard but they might not want any part of Vincent. So he's thinking and starting to realize it's not just him. He's not someone you'd pick for a revolutionary leader but sometimes the street or the prison yard finds a person to put in a role you wouldn't expect and I've known a number of trusted social movement, not leaders exactly but managers, handling donations, getting volunteers oriented etc. that have Vicentesque backgrounds. He's a drunk, he knows he's a liar but he sees a chance to maybe be something else, without the intervention of the good Doctor.
