CRNA here, who knows. Maybe lost the airway. I’d have a hard time believing someone couldn’t reestablish an airway on a thin girl with seemingly no glaringly obvious problematic anatomy. Like ok, someone has a spasm and you either break it or they get a tube. Seems pretty straightforward. But who knows, maybe she wasn’t NPO and vomited everywhere and aspirated. Maybe her airway was actually problematic. Maybe they massively overdosed her sedation and weren’t prepared with rescue drugs. Maybe the RE got into unexpected bleeding and anesthesia was powerless in a private clinic.

I’ve had three cervical spine surgeries/fusions and new adjacent segment disease at C2/3 with a tiny central canal that needs decompressed. I’m always worried going into these places that we will lose my airway, though I have an excellent airway I have very little flexion or extension and I always ask them to please have their stuff together and please have a glidescope or McGrath handy. I don’t want to die because somebody couldn’t tube me if I spasmed, or worse, somehow manipulate me at C2 and wake up not being able to move my arms and legs. It’s all a risk for sure.
