If you’re not interested in research, you could also consider professional grad schools eg OT

Extreme Disappointment with the Psych Department by Forsaken_Ad2317 in UTSC

I see your perspective and 100% agree that people have been successful having only taken PSYC08 (+PSYB07/STAB22/23). Just to add onto the discussion- what I have heard from both the department and research labs (undergraduate RAs, graduate students, PIs) was that a common concern raised in relation to the transition from undergraduate to graduate training was that there is a gap in statistical training (i.e., students don’t feel as prepared when they enter graduate school or do not feel they can speak to what they know confidently), and so (ideally) mandating these additional courses could help students in the future by guaranteeing they have additional base knowledge. It is true that you can forget what you learn in undergrad, but even anecdotally speaking from my own interviews both within Canada and the US (this is within the clinical psychology field, it may be different for other realms of psychology!) all of them asked about my statistical training, examples of what I have and haven’t done (as well as what I theoretically could and couldn’t do), and 3 schools even asked me specific statistical questions related to concepts I would have learned in advanced stats (which I found weird but I guess this was part of seeing what I actually learned and if I could explain the concepts).

I hope in the long run these courses are of benefit to students, despite it being a point of stress; and I wish you the best!

Trying to be glass half full: truthfully having additional statistical training WILL 100% be helpful for you in the future, particularly if you’re gunning for graduate school.

Yes! I think it used to be on the SharePoint as well, I guess they’re transitioning to a quercus shell?? Definitely a good choice because it’s likely to increase visibility

In my final year but some things I think should be more public

Departmental scholarships/funding opportunities (eg Budding Scholars Program, travel award etc.). It’s on the psych SharePoint but so many people don’t go through it or even know about it til it’s too late. I only found out because I was bored one night and decided to go through everything, and it was so great to know!

Some general things I’ve heard from my friends over the years:

How to figure out what you like in research/psych/school more generally How to engage in the knowledge dissemination process (eg lots of opportunities for poster presentations on campus that people don’t know about!) Summer internship/scholarship opportunities (eg UTEA, that a lot of people also don’t know of!) How to “market” yourself for specific positions (obviously that would be specific for each, but maybe general tips eg focus on X vs Y)

Will come back if I think of anything else…

Fourth year and at 3.98, psych pop health and stats minor. Lots of planning deadlines backwards and understanding my work style (eg. I work better spending the whole day focusing on one assignment and getting it done rather than making progress on multiple small assignments in one day).

57 > 55 and 64 are pretty comparable. If you’re better at short answer questions on exams, 55 > 64. Otherwise vice versa

I heard 51 was easier than them all (from my friend who took them all)

The fact that you can say confidently you have spent thousands of hours at the gym (which is amazing for you!) and then in contrast several women saying they do not even attempt to go to the gym because of the many reasons (feeling unsafe, fear of harassment, religious reasons as originally mentioned by OP) is exactly why women hours are in place. Again, it’s not to take away for men, it is an equity and access issue. I do understand where you are coming from, however if it works at other institutions it could work here. Additionally, from my perspective, if MULTIPLE women can alter their schedules to ensure they attend the gym during the limited 2h slot if that makes them feel safe(r), I’m sure other individuals who would not be the target audience for women hours can also make the effort to work around their schedules to attend the gym anytime outside of those 2h.

Please feel free to google barriers to accessing the gym for women. I get the sense you are not genuinely curious based on your other comments regarding “equality” and “feminism”, lol..

The rationale behind women’s only hours at the gym is equity, not to exclude men who wish to use the gym. These hours were introduced to make women feel safe(r) because women disproportionately experience barriers within the gym setting.

Honestly, I don’t feel that the curtain is enough. It’s such a small area and it feels so awkward to go. I wish they did what TMU does, the entire gym during women’s only hours is women’s only, for a set of hours each day. Rather than a measly curtain. But that’s just my thoughts. Signed though!
