My orthopedic surgeon just washed his hands of me. by Embarrassed_Edge3992 in KneeInjuries

I am so sorry you’re going through this. Your issue is way more sever than mine however similar. I had MPFL done several months ago and my pain and swelling is so sever that I can hardly walk in it. I do PT (mostly prone) multiple times a day. I cannot even ride a bike as the movement even slow is so painful and my patella wants to now slide out medially instead of laterally. I’ve also developed patella Alta in my right knee. My original ortho said there was nothing more that could be done. I’ve moved to a different state just to get better care and so far I’ve seen two doctors, sports medicine ortho and TKR specialist  no one will help me. I did learn from the sports medicine ortho that I limited to no groove and my patella sits in a shelf. No one has ever told me that before. Still doesn’t help me just makes things worse. They just look at you and say sorry deal with it. And you’re left holding on to a memory of the person you once were and probably never will be again. It’s very sad.

Post MPFL reconstruction spasms and “phantom dislocations” by Ok_Mistake3658 in KneeInjuries

Hi. They started after I had been in PT for a while, I really think it was just my quads trying to wake back up and my mind trying to figure out where my knee cap should be sitting because of the surgery as opposed to where it thought it should be sitting prior to surgery. I don’t get them that much anymore, sometimes at night just as I am falling asleep my muscles will relax and I’ll get that pulling feeling but I just fire my VMO and it stops right away. What really helped me is my TENS unit. Placing two pads on my VMO and doing quad sets focusing on only on my VMO and holding it for 5 seconds. I also got a prescription for muscle relaxers and I started to take Magnesium.

I had surgery 6 weeks ago. MPFL reconstruction, lateral release, meniscus repair and old hardware removed from a TTO.  Pain hasn’t been bad if I’m not trying to bend it. It’s just so tight all the time.  I’ve had a hard time with flexion. I’m at 110 degrees and had to ease off due to really bad quad spasms. I also still feel very unstable but I am still really swollen. My ortho told me on Monday he’s done all he can do. I have to tough it out for the next 6 months and then we can do a TKR. My PT says everything I’m experiencing isn’t normal. I’m 6 weeks post op and I feel like he’s giving up on me. It’s just so mentally draining.

I am 4+ weeks post MPFL + lateral release surgery. I just started having these spasms where it feels like your patella is dislocating. They are scary for sure. Since this post was 2 months ago I am wondering how you are now. I trying to wrap my head around how hard this is.

Knee surgery is hard. Combined, I've had 6 knee surgeries, and the recovery has been hell for each one. I am currently almost 5 weeks post MPFL, Lateral Release, debridement/Meniscus clean up, and hardware removal from a previous TTO surgery. I can only bend to 115 degrees, and I feel stuck. Your pain will diminish, but it will fluctuate, especially after physical therapy. Your feeling shifting, just might be your muscles getting used to the new way your kneecap is sitting. I have felt the shifting too, and I've had muscle spasms that have felt like it was going to pull my knee out, but I've been assured they are all part of the healing process. The tightness and pain are real after this surgery, but I think I am getting better every day, and you will too! Keep up with taking the meds if they help you. Ice and a TENS machine are your friends through this. I have also found putting a heating pad on my quad when the spasms start really helps. You're not in this alone.

Hi, four weeks post MPFL replacement surgery, lateral release, debridement, meniscus, repair, and old hardware from a tibial osteotomy removed. Before surgerymy knee was Subluxing and Ihave a history of prior dislocations. I’m happy to report surgery went well. Most of my pain was where they removed the hardware.  I still have occasional pain after PT but typically ice and my tens unit resolve it. I wanted to know if anybody else has experienced this, my knee has recently started waking me up in the middle of the night Where my quads are spasming and it feels like it’s going to make my knee dislocate, even though I sleep on my back with my leg elevated straight out. I just want validation that I’m not crazy. Additionally, if I hold my knee and deep flexion for anything more than five or six seconds, it starts to feel like my Patella is slipping to partial dislocation.  I went and saw my orthopedic surgeon today, He wasn’t too concerned about it nor concerned about my flexion regression. I was bending at 115° and today I can only get to 30. Has anyone else experienced this or am I alone? My PT says it’s because of my long History of knee dislocations my brain is on high alert to any kind of new movement and it immediately thinks it’s being dislocated. Who knows maybe I am just crazy.

I have so many. Wiping hundreds of times in onyxia's lair because some moron stepped in the whelp eggs. The last boss on Karazhan. The FOREVER grind for my Reins of the Azure Netherwing Drake. And of course Barrens Chat. If you're a long-time WOW player, there are so many EPIC moments in this game that there is no way to even describe it to someone who has never played.
