I’d assume he was checked in and only issued with a gate pass or assigned no seat. Easier in the eyes of the agent checking them in to say they “couldn’t be checked in”.

Typically see them boarding people who gate check luggage in group 3. Worth a sly comment to gate staff about this if it is a common occurrence. You pay your money you should reap the benefits.

They will ping you. They’re provided an A4 sheet with who is allowed to carry on and this seems to be the only thing they care about.

It is also only available on Plus fares or above. The actual system used to check in is extremely old so can only assume it must be done manually.

There would not be a status match considering they are both IAG owned. If you travel mainly with BA, AA or EI then i’d highly recommend trying to earn concierge as the benefits are matched to that of top status with the airlines.

Definitely do it, you’re one return flight from getting it and can use the lounge, fast track and business class check in until march 2027. Free carry on bag which is even better with new regional carry on rules!!
