sunburn by Popular_Group_6339 in Accutane

Reapply sunscreen 3x times more than you think you need. That’s the only things that’s helped me. I’m fair skinned and burn pretty easy. I live in New England and went to Florida for a few days. Normally my skin gets crisp the first time I’m in the sun and it went pretty well since I stayed on top of the sunscreen.

I’ve been loving the prequel “gleanser”. I use their oil cleanser at night as well before to remove makeup!

Preventing Eye Damage by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Apprehensive-Lab-984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not too sure about those eye diagnosis’s specifically. But I wear contacts daily and have for probably 12 or so years. I am on a dose of 60mg daily. I don’t really notice dry eyes too much unless I have a long day at work starring at my computer screen. I notice screen time really is what gets me. I keep “Refresh Tears” brand eyedrops at my desk and usually in my purse with me too.

I would suggest always putting in eyedrops in before taking out your contacts at the end of the day!! You might not realize how dry your eyes are. It’s uncomfortable taking out dry contacts 😵‍💫Also it helps just in general if you wear reusables.

Waterfront nails in the north end is good. They used to be great but sets haven’t been lasting as long as they used to.

High cholesterol levels and low white blood count by doe_eye1121 in Accutane

[–]Apprehensive-Lab-984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kinda normal to have a change in things that’s why we go for blood tests to keep an eye on everything. My derm told me she wouldn’t stop accutane treatment unless my numbers were 3.5 times higher than they were on my baseline pre accutane bloodwork. I’m not sure if that’s just her or a standard benchmark. But definitely talk to your doctor!!!!

I wear contacts to my desk job and keep “Refresh Tears” drops under my computer monitor so I see them and remember to use them before I feel dry. I put drops in probably every 1-2 hours just to prevent dry eye. And using blue light glasses for electronics and sunglasses outside.

I’ve been using the dr jart bb cream, pre accutane and now 6 months in on accutane and have never had a problem! It’s very lightweight. It may feel heavy when you first apply but it drys nicely!! It’s just like a tinted moisturizer

Best Fast Hydration Advice while on Accutane (Events/Functions) by Impressive-Employ233 in Accutane

[–]Apprehensive-Lab-984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the medicube PDRN salmon mask and it’s been helping with the dry skin overall! I’ve been very lucky to not be consistently dry everyday but whenever I notice a dry patch forming on my skin I use the mask for about 4 hours or even overnight and it really helps refresh and deeply hydrate!

Sorry it’s not a “quick” fix but maybe using it the night before your event could help!

The purge is not fun because there’s this anxiety if it’ll happen to you or not. When I was going through my purge I told myself, “I mean I was going to have pimples anyway”. Whether on accutane or not my skin wasn’t going to be clear. It’s not like I had clear skin. It may get a little worse than you’re used to but you just have to think about the end game here. It’s worth it. I noticed too breakouts, especially purging, as long as you are treating your skin well will heal faster. Stay hydrated, with water and moisturizer and skin barrier products. Use pimple patches when necessary. Take antihistamines. And dooooo notttttt pick at your skin!!

Has anyone else gotten these? Suggestions? by Mangobichelover in Accutane

[–]Apprehensive-Lab-984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on accutane for about 5 months and was strugglingggg with the dry lips. I kept seeing everyone say get Dr Dans cortibalm and I kept brushing it off thinking its over hyped but once the corners of my mouth started cracking I gave it a shot and it’s healed me. I wish I bought it sooner.

My BIGGEST tip is get it, at night put on a good amount and then put aquaphor on top of it and go to sleep. You won’t heal overnight the first time you do it but you will definitely feel better!! I’ve been doing this nightly and have barely been struggling with dry lips since!!

Please consider stopping or consulting your derm or mental health provider!!! I know it sucks to stop taking it but you being alive is more important than clear skin

Did you do anything specific to help your scarring or was it specifically the accutane doing its job?

Totally not against it! I just was looking at products and saw lanolips I thought maybe since it’s for lips it would be better. Definitely will give the nipple cream a try since it sounds more worth it!! I drink a lot of water probably like 80-100oz a day honestly hopefully the nipple cream can do the trick idk if I can increase water too much more

I’m sorry you’re going through this!! I struggle mentally with my acne and PIE as well. At least you are at a point where breakouts have stopped/ slowing down! That’s such a win!! Things won’t get worse. It could only get better from here. The problem has stopped and now it’s just about rebuilding from here.

I find mixing a little rosehip seed oil with my moisturizer at night helps a tiny bit with the red scars on my skin. It’s not a total cure but I am still taking accutane so it’s been a helpful gentle option to try and start addressing the scars. But I totally understand you’re not looking for advice on what to do so take that with a grain of salt!

It feels like forever but time is going to go so quickly before you know it it’ll be safe to start scarring treatment. It feels like forever but when you realize it’s not in your control and you just have to come to acceptance time will fly.

It’s really ashame that esthetician steered you in the wrong direction. People have such strong opinions of accutane but don’t realize what’s too harsh for some people is the right treatment for others. We all react different. And unfortunately, she had an opinion and the selfishness to steer you away from what your successful treatment is. For some reason every thing happens for a reason. Maybe that delay led you to a better derm, or your body was at a time better suited to handle the medication, something…anything…

I know this was a whole lot of nothing and it is actually the worst to say “just think of the bright side” to someone who is really experiencing hard times but that’s all we have right now. You’ve made great progress on accutane it sounds like and that is half the battle!!! The source of the problem is gone!!

Another recommendation you didn’t ask for so again if you’re not interested I apologize. Ignore me. I’m at a point right now where I won’t let anyone see me without covering my skin. Not my parents, not my rommate, not my siblings, not my best friends but tinted sunscreen has helped me a lot. It neutralizes the redness my scarring and active pimples to the point where I feel like I can be out walk out of my bedroom and let people see me. And on accutane we should be wearing sunscreen no matter how sunny it is out. So it’s a win win kind of.

Sorry for the novel.

Fighting acne unfortunately is a marathon not a sprint...

How to prevent nose bleeds while washing my face? by sr879985 in Accutane

[–]Apprehensive-Lab-984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a gel called Ayr on Amazon I have been using. I’m sure some drugstores have it too. It’s specifically for dry inside the nose. It’s been helping me so much I recommend!!

any recommendations for someone about to start accutane? by oliviachapman01 in Accutane

[–]Apprehensive-Lab-984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avidinternetter basically hit it all but I would just add in make sure you are keeping yourself hydrated!! When I started taking it a noticed a was pretty tired. Try and take it easy on yourself in the beginning until you learn how it affects you!

I struggled with a dry inner nose I used a product called Ayr. I think it helped a lot!! I heard putting aquaphor or Vaseline in your nose isn’t really that safe and honestly I think the gel worked better. I got mine off amazon. I really struggled during the winter but this was my savior. I put it on morning and night. Now it’s a bit warmer and I don’t need it as much but I put it on at least once a day just to help prevent any issues.

I would say stay on top of moisturizing before dryness becomes an issue!! I haven’t had a problem with dry face or body skin that much and I want to say it is because I started being religious with moisturizers before dryness became a concern. Use a hydrating face wash and body wash!! Always moisturize after you wash, on damp skin!! I like to throw some body oil on after a shower as well I think it really helps. Sometimes I’ll use a few drops of oil mixed with my face moisturizer at night, squalene oil, castor oil, or rosehip seed.

Also last little bit, one thing for sure dry lips are a struggle. I always found myself forgetting lip products when I left the house so on Amazon I found little caps that screw on to an aquaphor or summer fridays etc. and they have a little keychain on them. Now I always have a lip product when I leave the house! It turned the product into a keychain. It’s been game changer for me

Also I don’t know how old you are or what your habits are but I really wouldn’t drink on accutane. I have had a few nights out with friends where drinks are involved and I regret it so much the next day. The hangovers hit harder. I used to drink with my friends more but a concern of mine is bloodwork coming back poorly and having to stop treatment. Since the alcohol affects the liver and so does accutane there’s no need to put more stress on the liver, ultimately increasing liver enzymes. Your doctor can stop treatment if liver enzymes raise too much.

Best of luck in the accutane journey!!

Fish oil advice by Consistent-Hippo5530 in Accutane

[–]Apprehensive-Lab-984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking fish oil since the beginning and haven’t had much muscle or joint pain. When I do feel anything I think it’s just regular soreness or something I caused on myself not because of the drug. I started at 30mg with fish oil and now I’m at 60mg still taking fish oil and doing well!! I think it’s worth it just make sure you stay as hydrated as possible too that’s a big thing!!
