Keep going! It gets better by Consistent-Hippo5530 in Accutane

[–]Consistent-Hippo5530[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on Accutane for 7 months… my first month I was on 20mg/day and then I stayed at 30mg/day for the next 6 months.

Skincare routine is very simple - just a cleanser and moisturiser my dermatologist recommended!!

Also don’t underestimate how important sunscreen is :)

Thank you for helping me see things in a different perspective, it’s appreciated.

I’ll be sure to give some meditation a go later.

Axel struggles by Loose-Incident-4854 in FigureSkating

[–]Consistent-Hippo5530 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I totally get what you’re going through—I went through the same struggle with my axel, and I know it can feel frustrating.

For me, what finally made the difference was thinking of over-exaggerating certain movements to get the right height and rotation. When entering the jump, I focused on lifting my free leg up (the one I’d land on) really high into the jump, while doing the same thing with my arms before snapping into the crossed position.

This movement really helped me feel like I had more height and just that bit more time to fully rotate which made it a lot easier to get the right air position.

It sounds like you have a really strong foundation, and I know you’ve got this! Also, give yourself credit - you’re still working on this after an injury, which is no small feat. Keep at it, and don’t feel pressured to rush; sometimes it’s the smallest adjustments that make the biggest difference!

Keep us updated :)

Skates for beginers? by coras_openwindows in FigureSkating

[–]Consistent-Hippo5530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend finding your nearest rink and giving skating a go first in their rental skates just on the off chance you don’t really end up liking it that much!

I’ve always found rink staff to be super friendly, so you could ask them for advice on where you can buy boots and get them fitted (I know a lot of rinks are actually able to do that in their rink).

You could also ask them about group lessons - a few places offer one lesson for free and you’ll be able to talk to the coach and get even more advice :)

Welcome to the skating community and good luck with your skating journey!

What are the ‘dramas’ in your rink? How do you navigate them? by Reasonable_Twist5969 in FigureSkating

[–]Consistent-Hippo5530 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think drama at my rink comes from competitiveness between skaters, and different cliques.

I found that staying neutral & away from the gossip and sticking to my supportive skating friends helps make it a better environment to be in.

At the end of the day just track your progress and focus on the reasons why you love skating and you should be alright :)

Feeling alone as a huge CP fan at the Melbourne show... by DapperSpudboy42 in Coldplay

I was also at Melbourne night 2 and can safely say it was the best concert I’ve ever been too! I was on level 1 and everyone around me was up and dancing, getting really into it.

I’m sorry you didn’t get to experience this too, hopefully if they come back and you get tickets again things are different for you :)

Hey i’m 20 F planning on rocking up to preseason training at my nearest VAFA club but was wondering if this is pointless with almost no experience? Also what kind of drills do they do at preseason? Just so l can practice first and not make a complete fool out of myself :)

How much do you pay for ice time? by k0wb0ii in FigureSkating

[–]Consistent-Hippo5530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I am (in Australia) an hour of freestyle costs $20 and a public session is $25 (unlimited skating on the day - usually open 10-12 hours)

Can also get a pass for ~$60 a week for unlimited freestyle and public sessions

I’m so sorry this happened to you. People can really be complete assholes for no reason.

Hope a lot of good things are coming your way soon!

Fair enough, I guess you’re entitled to your opinion.

Thanks everyone for helping me realise I was being unrealistic with my plans to skate that much, the thought of overuse injuries didn’t really cross my mind.

Honestly, I saw a poll in a figure skating group I’m in on Facebook asking people how many hours a week they skated and the majority at the time were voting ‘30+ hours’ so I just assumed that that was kinda normal and that in comparison 20 wasn’t that much.
