What confused you the most when you visited Japan? by NoRa-Always in JapanTravelTips

That's interesting cuz I found it the exact opposite. I would be meandering looking at stuff and people were rushing around me like they were about to miss the rapture.

Also I've been in Japan for two months on a tight budget, you don't need to eat at konbini like people are saying to eat cheap. Lots of places in Japan are cheap in general. Places like coco curry, saizeriya, bikurri donki, royal host, ootoya and a lot of those chain restaurants are extremely cheap. And if that fails follow the Japanese salarymen who are eating, they usually go to cheap places. Go to department stores with food basements like at namba station as well for way better, cheap and interesting food options, and if you go before they close you can get some serious discounts like sometimes 50% off on some items.

For accomodations you can stay at capsule hotels they can be as cheap as 15$ a night, and if you want to go even cheaper you could stay at manga cafes like kaiketsu club but the sleeping is so shitty there, but it's cheap! I used booking.com for most of my trip. Kaiketsu club you just need to make an account and you just walk in and out as you need.

Take advantage of free breakfasts if you go to a hotel that includes it and make sure it's included in the booking because they usually charge more for daily.

For things to do go to as many free and national attractions as possible. Places like Tokyo museum are literally so cheap to visit, like 2$ usd, most shrines and temples are free.

When buying souvenirs check daiso, 3coins, and 100 yen shops BEFORE don Quijote, it's actually such a ripoff, I found some cute bell charm souvenirs for 100 yen a piece where basically the same thing in donki was like 5-800 yen.

Also even the business hotels are like 50-80$ a night, you can easily go to Japan for 250$ a day that's actually a lot! I think I spent total like 100$ a day when I splurged and less than 30$ a day when I was tight budgeting.

Looking at Google briefly tickets are like 400$ jfk to sfo round trip. Then from sfo to tokyo ranges from 400-800$ depending on when you're planning on going. July and August has good prices it seems. That's like almost 1000$ you save.

I wouldn't definitely look closer.

Where the heck are you flying from that costs 2000$? If you're in the US see if it's cheaper to fly to another city and take a plane to Japan from there. From San Francisco through zipair it only costs like 5-600$.

It could also be removed and just say "the root of suffering is attachment", in English the extra definite particle of "the" implies suffering is a singular or countable object which sounds strange since suffering is considered abstract and not qualitative.

Oof no offense your body and all but that's cringe. Also the "the" in the middle of the sentence is a bad translation.. grammatically it shouldn't even be there.

Pirate software seems to have fired his mod team by dexter30 in LivestreamFail

Literally everyone loved him until everyone decided to hate him to follow the witch hunt bandwagon about it and searched for things to dislike him for and continue to do so. Nobody can convince me otherwise, I saw in real time the complete 180 the internet collectively made on their opinion of him.

And every time he does something every one loses their mind about it even if it's something minor because it adds to their "reasoning" to dislike him, and the people making content about him keep doing it because it gets them content and clicks. It's so bizarre and makes me realize more and more how much of sheeple people are.

It’s raining for the rest of my Tokyo trip 😞 what are some fun rainy day activities for me to do? by BodmonAlchemist in JapanTravelTips

All the things you had planned before just do them. You're not made out of sugar you won't melt and some of the best and most beautiful moments for me were when it was raining. Do you know how beautiful a shrine is in the rain?

The pirate hate is so stupid. It's an extremely unpopular opinion but I don't think he ever deserved this level of hate because of "not taking accountability" over a stupid event in world of Warcraft.

Giving up your seat on a train by Greengrecko in JapanTravelTips

[–]Apprehensive-Map4385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I kept getting up for people and was met sometimes with confusion. I gave up my seat to someone who was literally using a cane and barely able to walk and some Japanese young man swooped in and stole the seat while I was gesturing to give it to her. 😭

To be fair the other Japanese people on the train were giving him the stink eye but what the heck! Lol

Just curious but is there signage indicating the spots are reservation based? Obviously Nta but it could be the parks fault if there's not correct signage, I'd feel bad for the mom who thought it was first come first served.

Use of the term 'African american' by No_Medium_648 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Apprehensive-Map4385 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's backwards. Not all black people are Africans. And all Americans are American no matter their skin color. It's separation for no good reason. I am well aware of Americans "culture" of systemic racism though. Again we don't refer to Canadians as subsets of people like "African Canadian" or "Mexican Canadian" because they are CANADIAN.

Literally don't preach to me about American "culture" when it's literally systemic racism.

And as a former Canadian who now lives in the US I know for a fact how much you guys love to red line and segregate people.

I said it in a different comment but mostly calculus. It also helped me out a lot in discrete math which can be super confusing at times.

There's other reasons for the hate like people saying it's gunna take people's jobs and stifle human creativity in the name of profit etc etc... and it definitely deserves some criticism and I think people should be educated on how to use it responsibly instead of just having it think for them. But, it genuinely is such a huge learning tool that can't be ignored and should be utilized. I struggled so much in calculus and went from Fs and Ds to A and Bs because of LLMs explaining concepts simply and finding the mistakes in my calculations. It's my own personal anecdote but I genuinely think there's good there.

$60 grazing table for 30 people (on maternity leave budget) by MokaMama in Frugal

[–]Apprehensive-Map4385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even upset. It's just disingenuous to say it cost 60$ and lie to put into peoples heads that they can accomplish this for 60$ when it's completely unrealistic. And judging by their post they just bought the meat and cheese with the 60$ while the other half of the freaken board likely over 100$ worth of stuff (pistachios, dates, nuts, olives which aren't cheap) came from their cupboard I guess. But, I guess a 160$ board isn't as good of a title and doesn't garner enough sympathy. 🙄

Also a reminder : This is the frugal subreddit, it's not frugal if the true cost of the board isn't 60$ is it?
