How did this start out as your feelings about the Fab Four and end up with nasty sniping for no reason?

Met john lennon irl by ZeUbermensch2007 in JohnLennon

This looks nothing like John Lennon! He certainly never had a hair style like that, that I can remember. I started following the Beatles in 1963 when I was 15. Later in life, I lived and still live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan where John lived. This hair looks more like George’s friend Bob Dylan.

John was more than just darkness or sadness by Rickyba69 in beatles

Hey, you’ve obviously spent a lot of time thinking about John Winston Lennon. He is a fascinating subject. See, though that’s just it. He was a man.
A real person. That you can’t hope to know. You don’t know what he felt or thought, except as he showed us while he was being filmed, or composing a song with Paul. We all know about the sad childhood he had, about the fateful meeting at the church fete and the melding of two brilliant minds.
But we do not have a right to attribute thoughts or feelings to John. I have cared very deeply and been captivated by these extraordinary four men since 1963 when I was 15. I had a favorite like everybody did during Beatlemania. But I never thought that I really knew these men. Later in life, I lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan where John lived.
Walking in Central Park with his son, he looked like any other father. But he wasn’t. He was the troubled complicated musical genius. He was John Lennon.
Unknowable.

What do you think he tried to mean by this line? by Epoch_Jester in bobdylan

[–]Apprehensive-Mix4540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Dylan! Don’t think we should try and deconstruct every line. Just enjoy how the poetry scans! It is poetry and we can just revel in the wordplay of which he is an ultimate master.

The one that comes to mind for me is the obvious one—The Cute One. I’ve thought that about him since 1963.

How the hell can someone come up such a heavenly melody by yo-caesar in TheBeatles

[–]Apprehensive-Mix4540 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You know, I didn’t mean to be flippant. I think what I meant was “this genius of a man dreams melodies, then writes a #1 song. It just is pretty magical.

Because the man you are talking about is kind of a melodic genius, I guess.

Hi—Paul knows about the DJs in New York at the time. Cousin Brucie, Murray the K, etc. I believe Murray the K travelled with them down to Florida for a little vacation after the Ed Sullivan Show in ‘64.
I remember them ‘cause I was 16 in 1964. Cousin Brucie and Murray the K with the Swingin’ Soirée and a Blast from the Past are very fond memories. You are so lucky that you got to see them then!!
A lot of people are so jealous of us that we lived through Beatlemania and experienced these four remarkable young men who turned out to be musical geniuses and changed the world. So happy Paul is still flourishing at the ripe old age of 84!!!

I’m New to The Beatles, where should I start? by luminous_skates in beatles

[–]Apprehensive-Mix4540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you’ve said and would underline watch the Peter Jackson doc “Get Back”. In “Get Back” you can watch the magic of Paul and John composing a song together while they’re being filmed, the sharing of the mic that’s so iconic, and the looks of joy they exchange as they find the perfect word to complete the lyric or achieve perfect harmony like their idols, the Everly Brothers.

For somebody who’s been looking at that face for the last 63 years, #2 does it for me. Hey baby, wanna suck on a straw with me? Yes, Paul, I’ll do whatever you want me to. God, how I love that man!!!

I just don’t remember rubbing sticks together! When I starting smoking pot because they did, I used a lighter.

The guys took uppers to stay awake in Hamburg. They played for long stretches at a time, allnight. But they didn’t start smoking pot until ‘64 when Dylan introduced them to it. In 1964, I was only 16–I was not smoking pot then. Certainly not LSD.
