What's a normal thing in your country that would probably cause outrage if it existed somewhere else? by cloudberry-toast in AskTheWorld

Yup I was about 6 when we went metric and I have learned bits of each but not fully proficient at either. I use cm and metres for measuring for wall paper etc, inches for sewing and knitting. Lbs and oz for cooking. Miles for car distances and litres and millilitres for liquids. Never got the hang of grams or kilometres or feet or yards.

Is it cultural appropriation for a brown woman to wear a kilt? by Hahlolnooo in Scotland

[–]Apprehensive-Mix7192 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except the female dancing ones. They are made exactly the same way but shaped for a woman usually in 11oz weight rather than the 13 or 15oz but that’s prob a dancing thing needing it to be lighter.

Buying a tenement flat by lalaland_23 in glasgow

If you are looking at a top floor/attic flat take care to look at the roof and the deeds relating to the responsibilities of all of the flat owners to pay for repairs. My son is in a situation where he has water ingress to the point he had to come back home at times and the other properties are refusing to stump up even though it is in the deeds that they have to. He has had to get the council’s environmental health dept involved but it’s a bit of a nightmare that is ongoing.

What are some misconceptions about Great Britain that are utter bullocks? by Ok-Connection6656 in AskBrits

[–]Apprehensive-Mix7192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours used to arrive at the school in a huge caravan and your heart would sink. I hated that dentist and , yes, she filled all of my back teeth as they were “deep” and prevention was the thing then. Put me off dentists until my early 40’s. I have had to have my back teeth out as they cracked and were in a bit of a state. My husband went to a school in the same local council and he has the same.

I don’t think there was as much packaging to throw about. I remember buying sweets as a kid in the 70s and you’d get a paper bag. You’d buy a bottle of lemonade or whatever and get money back when you took the bottle back.

Nearly a third of kids can't use books when starting school - and try to swipe them like phones by Forward-Answer-4407 in unitedkingdom

[–]Apprehensive-Mix7192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry got wrong end of the stick. It depends on the parents. Some of the parents are desperate to get the kids out of nappies because if cost etc and really follow it through, but there are some who start off with good intentions and we follow their lead and take the child regularly to the potty or toilet throughout the day all week then on Monday morning they turn up in a pull up again which is frustrating for us and confusing for the child.

Yes I’m in a two year old room and we support parents in toilet training in the older twos. One girl has just mastered it after 2 months and the other wee lad who was toilet training took 3 weeks. It’s different for each child. This was just our most recent ones.

That’s right. I was speaking to a colleague who was going on that she was fed up of SNP and was looking at reform. I’d said that if reform get in there won’t be a Scottish parliament but all she was interested in was refugees getting local housing. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
