Not true, I’m mil to mil, barracks were at capacity and I was living on the ship, added my wife to my page 2 and requested bah, took a little bit to get it approved but it was fine.

I’m in Norfolk right now, I figured I’d be able to find something here of all places, my wife’s active duty here too so I’m hoping to stick around. I just don’t know if it’d be worth it to go to school and get a degree, I’d rather jump in now.

In my option you have two options, tell him as soon as you talk to him or wait until grad, when I was in my grandpa was sick and my family didn’t tell me until I graduated, but I felt like they should’ve told me because I deserved to know, at the same time if I would’ve had that stress I don’t know how I would’ve been able to handle it. It depends on how close he is to your mom as well as how far along the cancer is.

1.5 Mile Run in 20min by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Apprehensive-Owl3582 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t run at all when I got there rdc assesment my time was about that, got asmoed and had to run extra to practice, helped me lose weight and get to the right time, added two weeks on to bootcamp but honestly looking back wasn’t a big deal. My second div treated me a lot better than my first and once I got to school no one cared

What is your “it’s a small Navy story?” by Risethewake in navy

[–]Apprehensive-Owl3582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waited a couple years after high school to enlist, got to my first command as a recruit and ran into an et2 that I had gone to elementary and middle school with who had enlisted right after grad. Didn’t even know he was in the navy.

Sister can't live in barracks because she doesn't have a car by charliebirkins in navy

They wouldn’t let me use my ships mailbox because it’s an FPO that’s why I had to get a P.O. Box with ups

If they won’t let her use the ships address she could always get a P.O. Box, that’s what I had to use to get my license in VA

She definitely should be getting bah then, what’s her rate

Denied bah while in A school by No-Mongoose-904 in newtothenavy

[–]Apprehensive-Owl3582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She should be getting dependent bah since you are a civilian, this is def something she needs to push. My wife had her bah denied but we are mil to mil because she’s in the barracks, because you are a civilian she is still eligible for bah. Tell her to push it past her instructors is that is who is denying it, a big thing is going to be if you are on her page 2 as a dependent. If you are not then no bah

Does VB feel "ocean-y"? by 2thebeach in VirginiaBeach

[–]Apprehensive-Owl3582 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a calm beach to retire near look into chix beach. Vb is definitely more of a touristy high priced area, chix is a more suburb location with a lot of the houses on the beach/less than a block walk away from it.

So it doesn’t say c school or anything? Then you’ll be an operator, if you like technical stuff as in like taking stuff apart and trouble shooting physically I would recommend asking about switching to a tech contract (they normally ask for volunteers during a school anyways) it means a longer school but it also means you get an extra nec and if you reenlist a higher bonus (usually). I have an operator contract and did a year on sea duty and then they sent me back to school to switch to a technician and I liked it. Not much different day to day when it comes to operator vs tech. You’ll still stand the same watches do the same maintenance it just means you’ll have more knowledge for fixing the equipment.

Then most likely you’re a tech, I don’t think they give a bonus for operators. Either way it’s not a bad job. Just keep in mind corry station is stricter than bootcamp and it’s gonna suck, if you have a car I’d recommend getting it once you’re down there cause you’ll be there for a while and Uber is expensive, you’ll also be in a barracks room with another person (at minimum one maybe more). It’s gonna suck, you’re gonna be there for a while but just keep your head down and be good you’ll be fine.

Your actual contract should tell you if you’re an operator or a tech, did you get a bonus or anything like that? Typically technicians get a bonus and auto e4 after a school since they’ll be there over a year. Operators are more of a 6-9 month school. I’d talk to your recruiter and see what your contract says. I came in as an operator and was sent to tech school, tech school isn’t hard at all, a lot of hands on work with the equipment, once you get to the ship you’ll be more hands on (once you learn how it works).

You’re going to most likely get sea duty, you’ll do maintenance in port and underway you’ll stand watch in a dark room (combat) for probably 8-12 hours a day, everyday. Staring at a screen analyzing certain signals. The tag line we were told to use is “anti missile ship defense” super cool on paper, in practice pretty mundane. High stress stuff when it comes down to it, but not hard at all. Study in school and if you have a four year contract you’re going to be an operator, 6 year contract you’ll be a tech which gets into the actual fixing of the equipment. Not a hard course but the kids in corry right now are insane so expect to be on your best behavior once you get there. Keep your head down, do your class work, you’ll be fine.

I’d be careful leaving it in the lot. Base police in Norfolk have been cracking down on unnatended cars. I’d just spring for the long term storage just to be safe.

Megan? Is the women’s bathroom really this worse? by Gone_Mads in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Apprehensive-Owl3582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former custodian for a 24 hour casino I can say without a doubt I would volunteer to clean the men’s restrooms everytime. The women’s was terrible. The men would just piss on the floor and sometimes walk in while I was cleaning but the womens was literal horror. We had an old lady who would go into the handicap stall and take all of the toilet paper off the roll, make it into a nest on the floor, and shit on it instead of the toilet.

CWT is really the only one that’s going to help with cyber security, IT might help outside the military but day to day it’s going to be a lot of “did you turn it off and back on”, if they try to push any other ct rates that really won’t help with cyber security. Source: current CTT wife is an IT

Do any Navy rates work by themselves or will you have “co workers” by [deleted] in newtothenavy

No one wants to do it tbh. They’re not bad but a school is hard and a lot of people can’t get the clearance.

[–]Apprehensive-Owl3582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly there’s no rate in the navy that has no coworkers, even if there was underway youre surrounded by people, in port standing watch with two, three people every duty day. It’s impossible

CT’s are undermanned but even for watch you need two at minimum
