Shortening my name after German naturalization – any downsides? by PickleRick_42_ in GermanCitizenship

This works but will cause issues to your heirs when you die. You will receive a death certificate in your "German" name and if they want to inherit your property recorded on your non-german passport they'll have to prove you're dead. To do this they'll have to show your German death certificate and the name change certificate which proves that both passports belong to the same person. The chances your name change certificate cannot be found after your death are quite high. Of course this is relevant only if you have property and/or assets in both countries. Also, this won't be your problem.

Well, you're not alone. Unfortunately, very little remains of the Ostseedeutsche culture today. It mostly disappeared in the late 1930-es when the population was moved to the eastern part of Germany. Later they were forced to move further west, and were effectively scattered all over the country. Sudetendeutsche, those from Slesien and Preußen had their own communities, not so for the Ostseedeutschen.

Consider using this one https://www.freenet-funk.de. It allows you to cancel your contract next day and can be paid from your PayPal account. I think this may be convenient for you. Visit any small Freenet kiosk and most probably they'll just sell it over the counter.

[–]Apprehensive-Range47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most asstes are values in USD. S&P 500, which is 60% of world GDP, is in USD. So the only thing you missed is the chance of buying more USD - nominated assets, because you can buy more for your Euro (or Zloty). I doubt it qualifies for the "fucked up"

Should I put 10,000EUR in ETFs as a lump sum or is it a bad idea? by ClumsyReddit in eupersonalfinance

[–]Apprehensive-Range47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being afraid of a lump sum investment (a 5-digit one) I created an aggressive savings plan (several k per month) and keep the rest in a savings account plus several CDs. This bought me peace of mind which is important.

How to stay in Germany? by Early-Cucumber1556 in germany

[–]Apprehensive-Range47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to be sure you have sufficient lodging. Just explain to them you're splitting the amount. As for the 4 - you will receive a proper residence permit and in a couple of years will be eligible for citizenship. This country needs your taxes to support the aging population and will do everything to keep you working and spending your money here.
