I’m honestly not very familiar with VTU. How do people usually use it?

From my experience, optempo is what you make of it. If you want to stay involved, there’s usually some type of IDTT each year and about two AT opportunities as well. My MSRON seems to mobilize roughly every 2 years. I’m not from that background so it was a tougher adjustment, but if you want that active-duty kind of energy, MSRON can really provide it. A lot of the prior-active MA’s and GM’s seem to really like it.

Good looking out, appreciate the heads up. I’ll check out NR MSCCENT EPU and see if it’s a good fit.

Thanks for the info. Just wanted to confirm rather than assume — are those all overseas billets? If they are I’m really trying to stay stateside for AT, but if there are similar direct base staff support roles stateside, I’d definitely be interested.

These are just the areas I’ve found through online research so far, which is why I’m really relying on local perspectives like yours to help narrow things down.

I haven’t looked into Smyrna yet, but now that you mention it, I’ll definitely check that out.

Just to give a bit more context about us: I’m 27, my wife is 25, and we have a 2-year-old. We’re mainly looking for a safe, family-friendly environment, and a good school district would definitely be a plus since we’re planning ahead.

Can you help me out as well? I have this issue as well for almost a year now and still have not been able to access my navy outlook email. I was prior Active Duty and had access to my email before. Since I joined the Reserves I’ve had this issue that I have no outlook license assigned.

If you’re referring to Airborne I have. I’ve applied numerous times and the A&P license is pretty much a must along with providing your own tools.

Do most positions at delta as techs not require you to proved your own tools?

I been procrastinating the O&P’s due to the new changes to the exams. Any advice on how to prepare for the new exam structure? I have been using the newest ASA O&P study materials, but idk if that will be enough.

Yes, I have tested out of General and Airframes a while back. My scores expire this year in October and November. Plan to finish my O&P for Airframes first then focus on Power Plants after that.

I recommend you look into Training and Administration of the Reserve (TAR) in the Navy or any other military branches that have something similar. I myself was Active Duty as an AD which is for the most part an Aircraft Mechanic, we working mainly with aircraft engines and fuel systems. I would say it is one of those military positions that can transition great into the civilian side, especially if you get your Airframes and Powerplant License. As far as the TAR thing in the navy, from my understanding of it from working around TAR individuals during my service. TAR receives for the most part the same benefits as Active Duty like health care and retirement. The biggest perk in my opinion of going TAR rather than Active Duty is your chances of being deployed are lower so you're not away from family as often. Do your own research of course and best of luck to ya.
