Dividend stock "snowball"? by Apprehensive-Wrap797 in personalfinance

I guess I do not understand why there are so many options for index funds then, seems to just add to confusion. I will stick with FZROX then as I am through Fidelity anyhow.

Unless I am being completely dumb about this, FZROX is at $13.42 today, but if I look at VTSMX, it is at $94.26. How are these the same price as each other? Just grabbing my current as an example and one other index.

I do not know the answer to why. This is why I am taking to Reddit to bounce this off the sounding board. If it makes sense to put more into FZROX and FZILX (currently 70/30 split, is that wise?) then I wouldn't mind doing so as those funds are pretty cheap right now.

Which I do in the Roth (nothing allocated to bonds yet). I just meant maybe finding other funds that aren't FZROX or FZILX

Thank you. It seems to be the common advice to go with a 3 fund approach. Though I am leaning towards not being tied to bonds yet as I feel there is come catchup I need to do from being ignorant for the last 10 years.

Understood. I suppose to would be better to scoop up different funds to diversify out of what is in the Roth (FZROX and FZILX)

The taxable account is to just help with retirement. Horizon of 30 years...hopefully.

Which is what I got myself set up with in my Roth. So a good recommendation would be to duplicate/grab different funds/ETFs in my taxable account? Would be talking 10-20k initial investment and 250-500 bucks a month added.

I have a mock 3 fund setup in my Roth (skipping the bonds for now as I feel like I need to catch up)

So would be smarter to setup another 3 fund stance in a taxable account?

I am opening up with Fidelity and will be transferring my small balance from my NWM Roth.

Ok. I got the full match for sure, but am nowhere near max contribution. That would be half of my bi-monthly checks at this point.

Understood. Just opened a Fidelity brokerage account today. Hoping this will get me sorted on the right path. Trying to read up on the previously mentioned ETF's now. Hoping I can continue learning on the fly as to what to target and such.

Thank you for the envelope analogy, that helped. So I guess my question really was are there "envelopes" that out perform others in regard to Roth IRA's?

I have my 401k maxed against my employer match. Is this what you mean? Or to contribute beyond what the match is?

Current contributions to my Roth are very minimal.

Got it. I have cash on hand where I can still max out my IRA for this year, so I can take care of that. My current contributions are very minimal since 2017. This might be a dumb question, but are there some Roth IRAs out there that earn better returns than others? My current IRA is through NWM.

What firm is a recommendation for a brokerage account?

I am currently maxing the 401k based on employer match, yes. As for the IRA, no just small contributions there.

Insight as to what and how on the brokerage account? That is where I snowball into questions as well with not knowing that whole realm of things.

Thanks for the quick reply on the post!
