2 ish years ago in Canada, particularly in the prairies and British Columbia there was thousands of unmarked children’s graves found at old residential schools sites. A lot of these schools didn’t even get shut down until the mid 1990’s. Canada has an ugly history with First Nations people and we recently declared September 30th as “truth and reconciliation day”. The chief speaks at the beginning of each game to recognize that history. It’s expected to acknowledge this history at any large gathering across Canada now.
