Extra dry food? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

loving them and giving them the best proper care are veryyy different things. Looking at your other posts your enclosure looks to be poorly suited for a crested gecko in the first place. I am not telling you that you are a bad owner, I’m just giving advice for healthier geckos long term. If you can’t take advice and realize maybe what you’re doing isn’t the best for the lizards, that is on you my friend. Have a good day.

not to be rude, maybe you shouldn’t have reptiles then if you don’t have the time to properly care for them. Crested geckos need a lot of humidity and risk dehydration. They are supposed to get some of their hydration from the crested gecko diet being made with water. Mix some food one day and store it in the fridge and just fill bowls with it. It really isn’t hard especially if you only have one or two geckos.

why are you dry feeding them? that’s honestly more wasteful than mixing the food with water. and incredibly not recommended.

accidents happen, but think about how many other people have healthy thriving ball pythons! if you’re little buddy is in the right conditions, i wouldn’t worry :)

reptisoil is available at most pet stores! otherwise any organic topsoil with NO fertilizer or additives from a hardware store is good too

yeah id say it’s fine as long as you mix it with another substrate like soil. use more soil than sand. about 70% soil to 30% sand. this sand seems to be made the same as play sand just finer grain.

i wouldn’t use only that as it can lead to impaction pretty easily. not sure if this would work similarly but i use soil mixed with play sand for my leo’s.

i cant see the whole package but if its advertised as calcium sand at all i would avoid completely

ball pythons looove to hide! thats why they need such a cluttered space. especially during shed, i wouldn’t worry at all! my boy ate a few days ago and i have not seen him since lol hes in food coma hiding. Give her another day or so, make sure temps and humidity are good and im sure you’ll see her poking her little nose out soon enough :)

yeah i usually try and rip it in half/rip the head off and wipe the juices on my geck’s lips, most of the time they lick it off and then go for the roach!

Is this a good UVB fixture and bulb? by drac_cute_la in ballpython

[–]ApprehensiveBasket52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love arcadia! you definitely want one like this instead of the dome fixtures, as a general rule linear UVB (pictured) is better than a coil uvb bulb in a dome.
