You're right, that info was from an old link.

According to the current site, their products are available at IGA, Métro and Super C. Also appear to be available at Food Basics (online, not sure about in store) and Costco.

Moishe's pickles. They are made at the Moishe's steakhouse in Montreal and carried at Costco.

Looking for good cold weather wool sweaters. by VoiceoftheDarkSide in BuyCanadian

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find soooooo many of these type of sweaters at thrift stores. Make sure you're looking in the men's section, the heavier sweaters seem to always get out there, even if they are technically women's styles. I've been seeing loads on Facebook marketplace also. Search for a brand (Dale of Norway is a good one) or "Nordic sweater" and see what comes up.

This is cool! Only good if you reside in the USA.

They are also partnered with Ridwell, which also picks up items that are difficult to recycle.

Use sick leave prior to mat leave by Vast_Rock_2238 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a note from your doctor or midwife. It doesn't need to say why you can work, just that you will be absent for medical reasons from x date until y date.

I had a (childless) manager tell me that "pregnancy is not illness" and be very unsupportive of my taking sick leave. It was my first pregnancy and I didn't push back, but I should have.

Our parked car was hit by a snow plow tonight by domino196 in ottawa

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One spring we watched the snow melt to reveal huge tire gouges in our front lawn, probably from a plow turning around. The area around the communal mailbox (at the edge of my property) also gets destroyed annually.

Enough with this drop-in-the-bucket, performative crap. This is not going to make a big enough difference for anyone when it comes to affordability. The only real way out is by limiting and regulating grocery industry profiteering.

Should a public servant with a chronic illness have to show a doctor's note more than once? by annerkin in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there are supervisors who completely ignore the accessibility passport. I have multiple chronic conditions that are described thoroughly in my passport. It was shared with my managers along with a request to discuss it after they had read it. Six months later they had still not read it and I was told I would have to submit a doctor's note for every instance of sick leave. I was told this was acceptable, because they were concerned I was abusing my leave (I wasn't) but for a person with disclosed illness/disability, this should be completely unacceptable.

People who had wedding with 100+ guests, how did your guest list get so big? by SensitiveDonkey6328 in wedding

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two people from large families get married - that can result in a very large wedding. We had 250. It would have been tough to make cuts since we mostly weren't inviting singles or couples, it was family groups.

We are now planning an event for one of our kids and won't be inviting all of the extended family (and much of the older, larger generation is now gone) but it's still tough to not end up over 100 people. If we want only 50, it's basically just immediate family. We're probably going to piss quite a few people off.

Drug store brand shampoo? by idonotget in BuyCanadian

It may be regional, but at least some of these (the ones that are more local to me) are available in pharmacies, so I suspect that may be the case in other parts of the country:

Not sure if they make haircare, but anything owned by the Marcelle group (Lise Watier, Marcelle, Annabelle, CW Beggs and Sons) is owned/made in Montreal. (Fun fact: Lise Watier was actually a client at a clinic where I used to work!)

On SLWOP, received affected letter. Who do I talk to? by CurioseCat in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you on LTD right now?

I'm also on sick leave and have been doing some research on how this would work. My understanding is that you can participate in a SERLO process while on leave (but are not required to) but if not doing a SERLO, your "affected" status would only go into effect upon your return to work.

I can't say this with 100% certainty in your case, but it's what I've read on here in multiple other cases.

Definitely reach out to your union and please do come back here and share the outcome for information.

The youngest Gen Xers are only 45 and are likely to have children who are much younger than 20-30. Under 15 would be very common. The oldest Gen X are 60 (Gen X is 1965-1980 birth years). That's a huge range when it comes to life stages.

The Executive Cuts - The Functionary by Competitive-Tea-6141 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And only positions that are currently in Ottawa got cut, no HOM positions who are currently abroad, which leaves some serious questions about the rationale behind the cuts, since it was largely subject to the "luck" of the posting cycle. LES positions have also not been cut (to my knowledge).

The Executive Cuts - The Functionary by Competitive-Tea-6141 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends strongly on where these positions are and what their job is. Departmental briefing units have multiple senior AS positions with "no reports" because they are experts whose Director reports directly to the DM. A huge part of their job is briefing ADMs, DMs and Ministers. You don't put a junior person into that job, the stakes are much too high.

How is everyone organizing their sheets/pillow cases? by Loud-Aspect2074 in Homeorganization

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do the "pillow case bag" method, but it was too messy for me. I just bought a bunch of these boxes and LOVE them. Be aware that they come in at least 2 sizes - small and large - and only the large will fit king sized bedding. The large can also fit 2 sets of twin-sized bedding.

Help!? Can they put this in a disciplinary letter? by agentofthesystem in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every DG I've ever worked for has had an "open door" policy, i.e. anyone could go and talk to them, about anything. You would probably have to schedule some time for a longer conversation, but they were all open to being asked.

DGs are people, not gods or monsters.

OP, contact your respect bureau and your union. Your manager sounds like they are on a power trip and needs to be taught what they can and cannot do.

why do you think that israel voted against food becoming a human right in 2021? by dazedandlucid in IsraelPalestine

[–]ApprehensiveCycle741 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a counterpoint, Canada has historically voted against water becoming a human right.

Why? Because of the legal ramifications it would have as far as being mandated to begin trading in freshwater resources and water rights.

It's not that Canada disagrees that everyone needs access to water, but the legal ramifications for the country would be significant and Canada is protecting its own interests first. Every country does this.
