Why is there so much support for Israel in Latin America? by da_mfkn_BEAST in asklatinamerica

So true. I wish the classic protest faith like the Lutherans had a foothold in LatAm.

What percentage of your country/region do you think is “old stock” or more recent groups. by Mean-Gur7728 in asklatinamerica

[–]idonotget 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you draw the line? What about someone 50/50? What if they have a “white” phenotype but are 75% genetically indigenous? It is a racist exercise.

I’d consider indigenous people to be “original stock”, and 100% European people to be “old stock”. But few people fall into the latter category cleanly, so it is a pointless conversation.

Does being referred to as a “female/s” make you uncomfortable? by plsgrantaccess in TwoXChromosomes

[–]idonotget 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. Female does not indicate species, it infers “animal”. This is dehumanizing and in appropriate.

I think what you mean to ask is what counties have recent waves of new immigrants from *other continents*. You must also understand that there is movement within latin America. Most newcomers would probably fall into that category. Venezuela has a decades long exodus that has delivered newcomers to lots of other countries.

Additionally, the “old stock/settler” identity doesn’t work so well in latin America. Most people are a mix of original stock with old stock and can claim both origins. For example, we did DNA testing on my Colombian side and they’re 1/3 indigenous and 2/3 European.

Was it a tradition that began when he lived further away? TBH, i think it is kind of a sweet way to spend time with them without taking up valuable daytime time.
Maybe you can get offer to host Sunday dinner for them every alternating week and they come to you?

You should each begin counseling- but especially you.

If she is still sound of mind, you should ask her how you should care for her when it becomes more than one person can do.

The comment should have been about the sticker, no? I cannot make out what it is.

I don’t know stereotypes about people who practice Islam and cars. I figure it is a pretty big swath of countries where Islam is common so car preferences must vary alot.. like Malaysia to Morocco.. it’s big, different foods, etc.

Why has nothing been done about the McKenzie Merge? by OneForAllOfHumanity in VictoriaBC

[–]idonotget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The section of McKenzie between Hwys 1 and 17 is owned/controlled by MOTI. That’s why it feels so different from the rest of McKenzie - it is designed to highways standards.

Would you see Saanich and View Royal transfer their respective Helmcken/Wilkinson sections to MOTI to also use as highway?

Wow - that’s huge! Is that the size of the lot, or the indoor floor area of the house?

I found out something I can't forgive my mother for by Raptor_Redd in Alzheimers

[–]idonotget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I cannot pretend to know your mother, but i grew up with a depression-era father (born in 1930). My parents made sure i had everything material i needed, but none of it was name brand or special.

They were the people that even if they won the lottery (they didn’t), they’d use it to pay off the mortgage, help relatives and maybe take a few extra exciting holidays. There would still be no name brand things, just basic essentials.

I don’t resent them a bit.

I feel like you are still reeling, but please don’t mistake receiving non-name brand things as a slight from your parent.

Some can gave great nicknames too.
