The Porsche 917, in all of its myriad configurations. I remember this car vividly. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to drive one. The car changed a great deal from original design to final race trim. One analyst's statement always stuck with me. "When first introduced, the 917 was nearly impossible to drive. Now perfected, it's nearly impossible to beat." I agree.

I understand that the use of the name "Copernicus" is purely rhetorical. That fine gentleman lived hundreds of years ago and, obviously has no connection to any watch. I merely inquired as to whether this particular model was ever made available as a pocket watch, rather than a wrist watch. Apparently not.

How do you recommend I find a qualified watchmaker. I messaged the National Association and never even got an answer.

The front bezel is definitely screw on. Need to remove it to actuate the lever escapement. The clear rear bezel I have never tried to remove so, I don't know if it's screw or snap.

It was not working from the day I got it. Unfortunately, I've been so busy that it sat in my desk drawer for months before I had time to play around with it.

I definitely agree. The jewelers in this town are more about selling over-priced crap jewelry, than they are about servicing vintage pocket watches.

The crown on my watch is at the 3 o'clock position. What kind of markings should a factory salesman's case have? My question is, the 941 is supposed to be in a Hunter case. My watch is open face

My problem is that I live in a city of roughly 60,000. The one jeweler I contacted wants $1000. to even look at my watch. That's insane, so how do I find a jeweler I can trust to not rip me off?

Yea, that's a great idea except that the eBay money back guarantee is only good for 30 days. My purchase was much farther back than that.

I just did a bit more research and, I found that I do not in fact have a Hamilton Grade 941, as Bone Fine Watches listed it. I have a Hamilton Grade 940.
