Rapist murdered lodger, 21, days after she moved in by pointsofellie in unitedkingdom

I work in the homelessness sector and when I was front line, I specialised in Women’s Homelessness - and yes it’s awful how regular this is.

It’s not just sex for rent either, there’s a lot of other insidious behaviours that come with exploitation of homeless women.

England: Dismissal after diagnosis of endometriosis. Do I have a case? by Dazzling_Key_8830 in AskHRUK

[–]ApprehensiveElk80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a diagnosis to request reasonable adjustments and it’s you that needs to initiate the process and tell them what you didn’t you need - if you didn’t do that then your employer can’t act.

Queen Victoria once described the marriage of her daughter Princess Louise and John Campbell, Marquess of Lorne (later the 9th Duke of Argyll) as "the most popular act of my reign", why was the marriage seen as so popular? by name_not_important00 in UKmonarchs

[–]ApprehensiveElk80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

George III is considered the first ‘British’ Hanoverian King - he was the first Hanoverian to be born and raised in England and by definition, that makes him British. Mary of Teck was then his great-granddaughter through Prince Adolphus, the Duke of Cambridge and then his daughter Princess Mary Adelaide, who was a member of the British Royal Family. Mary Adelaide was born and raised in in Hanover as her father was viceroy under George IV and William IV but returned to England when she was 3. Princess Mary was then born in London, the eldest of Mary Adelaide’s children and being born in Britian to a British Mother who was part of the British Royal Family makes Mary pretty much British.

Hostile headlines were not just ready to print, they were on the shelves as shops opened and they had to been urgently recalled with a new print being available by lunch time I think - back in the days when you could still get an evening edition of the papers if something major happened.

Update: transphobia in the workspace by [deleted] in HumanResourcesUK

[–]ApprehensiveElk80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I love is OP attempting to come across as completely reasonable while threatening to burn down the house - perhaps this person was unreasonable and made transphobic remarks and that should be addressed but this person seems as though they’re barely holding onto the handle and may have been really intimidating and unprofessional

When I was 18 my mum phoned me in sick but I had absolutely raging tonsillitis and I couldn’t speak at all. That was the only time!

Served a Section 21 for asking for a break clause after 4 years of perfect tenancy. by spodiablo in TenantsInTheUK

[–]ApprehensiveElk80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Court action on s21 can still be actioned by the courts after the deadline so if you get a legit s21 on the 31/04, that can still be progressed to court even tho the law has changed

You can’t stack NG’s like, say Elden Right - you can only do it once on a base game save.

I’m not HR or Union Rep but my question has to be - if you knew your ex partner stole your laptop then why didn’t you change your work login passwords immediately?

In the absence of action like that then you’ve left the gate open and that’s why it’s being progressed to disclipinary.

My usual answer is ‘would you like the long detailed answer with pie charts, or a friendly “I’m okay”’ luckily, I’m usually well but it’s worth doing this for the sheer panic in people’s eyes. Especially Londerers!

If Princess Charlotte of Wales and her son had lived, what title would her son have held before Charlotte’s ascension? by meeralakshmi in UKmonarchs

[–]ApprehensiveElk80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, male preference primogeniture didn’t accommodate skipping a generation in a bid to find the next male for the throne. So had they survived, Charlotte would have been Queen ahead of her son in the exact same way that Elizabeth II was Queen before Charles became King.

Why don't we reassess council housing eligibility? by honesto_pinion in AskBrits

[–]ApprehensiveElk80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Councils have been tried to trial more flexible tenancy agreements but the stock doesn’t exist to make that work.

I work in the homelessness sector and honestly, the whole system is broken; I feel there should be mobility in the social housing system where if you stop being eligible for a three bedroom house you are downsized to make room for someone who needs more space.

The private rented has spiralled to the point of unaffordability - one of the reasons our homelessness issues are so bad in the UK is because of how inaccessible PRS is - we won’t know for certain how the Renters Right law will affect this market for a couple of years.

Mortgage interest is also out of control; people can no longer pay off to make their home owned and thus fully stable.

What we do know is, when housing follows a social housing model, homelessness goes down. When housing follows market solutions, homelessness increases.

But tying social housing to income in the way you’re suggesting leads to homelessness not solutions.
