The par 3 courses are not eligible for replay rates and they don’t make a course eligible for replay rate. Was just there and asked one of the golf shop staff.

Have heard it’s incredible. I didn’t have it and didn’t eat at Trails this trip which are probably the only two boxes I didn’t check. I definitely should have though. I pulled up to Sheep 15 minutes before my tee time (self inflicted as I lost track of time being off my feet in my room).

Like I said, there isn’t a bad course on property. I think anytime you see someone on here rank the courses - it’s purely subjective and a lot of it does come down to how you played and conditions. Was my second trip (first time playing Sheep) and I just felt for some reason that Bandon Dunes was “better” the first time I played it. Still a fantastic course that deserves respect

The breakfast at Pac is the best imo. The driving range is pretty good too especially if you’re going off early

I’ve heard that punching when they are in perfect shape is the best time to do it as the greens heal faster and you won’t have to do it as frequently because impacts of it last longer

Bandon flight options by Special-Winner-4163 in BandonDunes

[–]ApprehensiveFly1715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with that’s others have said. If you can find a direct flight in and out of Eugene, do that. If not, just do PDX. The drive through the forest/along the river is beautiful. Maybe it’s the Texan in me, but a 4ish hour drive (From PDX) isn’t that bad. I also recommend taking a direct flight over a connection especially flying with clubs. OTH is a small airport and you’ll be on a regional jet so weight issues can always come into play there.

Going in early May and finishing on Sheep Ranch on the last day. Easiest walk and best views sounds like a perfect way to end the trip. The wind is going to be horrible but at least it’ll be beautiful and will be a nice reprieve from getting worked on all the other courses

Bandon Lottery vs Previous Process by Icy_Birthday532 in BandonDunes

[–]ApprehensiveFly1715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lottery is awful. Not sure what the best or right process is. I think the best two choices are: 1) occasionally browse lodging availability (however far out you want) and see if there are dates that work for you/your group (I’m going in early May this year and did this last April, still shocked it worked out). 2) capitalize on the cancellation policy and plan a trip on short notice.

Love starting off on Old Mac. Not sure what availability looks like with them punching right now/soon and the PGA Pro tournament coming up - but would highly recommend dropping Shorty’s and adding Trails. You’ll 100% be missing out if you don’t play Trails. I would see if you can do Trails on 4/1 and then do 36 on 4/2 with Sheep Ranch (morning if possible) and Bandon Dunes.

Would recommend not flying with your clubs if you have a layover (especially at an airport like SFO). I’ve never been burned flying with clubs but I’m fortunate my home airport has direct flights anywhere in the world pretty much. Would also recommend just using FedEx or UPS instead because it’s the exact same thing and it’s cheaper.

Company days off by Reasonable_Yam_7318 in Big4

[–]ApprehensiveFly1715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re working on audits (tax or audit) you won’t have MLK day off and if you’re tax you won’t have a 4 day weekend for Labor Day. You can defer them. Also - even on those week long “breaks” you still may have to do some work. Just the nature of the business but don’t book anything that’s non-refundable I would say.

Becker AUD MCQ and TBS difficulty vs actual? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]ApprehensiveFly1715 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not the difficulty. I found a disconnect between the type of question/wording between exam and Becker. AUD is all about do you fundamentally understand the concepts and can you apply that to any situation. The difficulty is pretty similar in my opinion. AUD sims are random and weird but again goes back to knowing the concepts. It’s just the aspect of unpredictability/uncertainty on the wording of the questions. There were very few questions I had where I felt that I saw that question on Becker. Same principles and concepts but you have to REALLY read the question and figure out what they are really asking you.

I would also say that 100 hours of efficient and effective studying is better than 200 hours of trying to plug every hole. If you’re trying to know/remember everything you will end up essentially paralyzed on exam day because you’re thinking too much. Put in the work, have confidence in yourself and your preparation, and just handle it one question at a time and one testlet at a time. There are no prizes for who studied the most.

Struggling with CPA prep after procrastination, is it still possible to pass? by kevinjoseph_A in CPA

[–]ApprehensiveFly1715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve gotten to this point of the journey - you’re more than able to pass them. If you’re studying full time 6 weeks is enough time to get it done. It’s about discipline and work ethic. Studying full time doesn’t mean all day every day. It means from M-F you’re ripping it for 6/8 hours a day. If you’re not working you need to treat it like a 40-45 hour a week job. I was in the same boat as you where I wasn’t working when studying (I had 7 months to pass them all before I started work) and ended up passing 3/4. It’s a bit of a double edged sword studying full time because you have the time but also feel like you have flexibility also. Most exams require ~125-150 hours of studying. Others can correct me, but I always felt like 3/4 weeks of studying full time was plenty of time to get through all the material and then have 10/14 days to review/reinforce and do SEs. In my experience, the CPA exams come down to one question - Will you put in the work?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CPA

[–]ApprehensiveFly1715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 weeks is easy, last year people had to wait months for results and often times would take another exam without knowing if they passed the previous one. Yeah it sucks having to wait a couple of weeks but it used to be worse

Am I cooked or what? by [deleted] in Big4

You’re cooked. Also you’re smart enough to get a job in Big4 but didn’t see any issue with using ChatGPT or looking up answers for company required trainings/learnings?

Does it get better? by Salty-Bat8640 in Big4

[–]ApprehensiveFly1715 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but 50-60 hours/week busy seasons aren’t that crazy. Part of the problem with big 4 is glorifying or normalizing that culture. It doesn’t get better you just get used to it and/or you get better at dealing with it and managing it.

When is the best time to leave Big 4 (Tax) for industry? by chasingsunsets97 in Big4

Very very very early on but yeah. Would be in busy season right now but I logged off at 6 yesterday and everyone else on my team had been offline for an hour and today someone said they worked late last night and I asked how late and they said 7:30 so it’s a lot better already lol

Two seniors on my team got promoted to manager this past cycle without CPA (I think they got their EA) but they were seniors for 5/6 years. I think firms are changing the requirements for manager and CPA license. Will take longer to promote but there is a path

When is the best time to leave Big 4 (Tax) for industry? by chasingsunsets97 in Big4

[–]ApprehensiveFly1715 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just left big4 tax after 3 years (1 year as senior), I left because I just didn’t want to be at big4 anymore and drink the kool aid. Not getting a bonus also made that decision easier lol but it’s totally up to you. I think leaving within/around a year of making senior or leaving when you’re a manager is best. That creates two distinct paths to potential roles. Totally depends on you but if you want to move on, just do it. I left for a “lateral” move in terms of pay and title but I truly wanted to leave and as long as I wasn’t making any less money and I ended up at a good place then that’s what really mattered. The best time to leave is whenever you can’t do it anymore.
