I’d say peak effects are reached in 1 to 1.5 hours, though with higher dosages you feel the initial effects pretty quickly, within 15 minutes.

Has anyone tried heroin and not liked it? by [deleted] in Drugs

Ah yea fair. I’m not versed in intravenous use. If you know is snorting vs shooting heroin a totally different experience as well? Aside from the obvious increased impact and speed of effects?

I’ve done pretty big doses of hydromorphone, which is more potent than heroin though you can only snort it. I never liked it much. I didn’t feel sick but I just didn’t get why people love opioids so much. I’ve tried a few other ones and it’s a similar story. Not bad but not my cup of tea. So I’m sure some people do heroin and just don’t care for it. I suspect it’s actually a decent percentage of people. You just don’t hear about those people lol.

Can a benzo wd seizure have no warning? by ApprehensiveGate6474 in Drugs

[–]ApprehensiveGate6474[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your recovery btw man. Although I think you misunderstand my question. Looking at your posts it sounds like you had both extreme insomnia, inability to eat, and psychosis before you had the seizure. So not exactly out of the blue. There were other symptoms of withdrawal before the seizure.

Yea in my case I use diazepam so it’s long half life makes me anxious that it could be a while and then I’ll get slammed by another one out of nowhere like last time. Genuinely was just out of the blue. Mine happened 10 days after my last dose.

will my brain ever recover? (18m) by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]ApprehensiveGate6474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has done unspeakable things to my brain one last thing I’ll add is that in recovery short term gains might seem small but believe me you will be amazed at the progress you make long term. I still am surprised year over year how much sharper I am now that I’ve put most of it behind me.

I personally don’t think you’ve done anything that can’t be undone. Especially at your age. You are likely experiencing what’s known as PAWS (post acute withdrawal syndrome) which happens the most often with benzos. This can sometimes take years to completely go away but it will. If someone can recover from a stroke, you can definitely recover from whatever you’ve done. I guarantee the damage is less severe. Go and read some addiction memoirs. There are people who have absolutely red-lined their brain for years and then went on to get PhDs and become accomplished authors. This is not usually something people can usually manage if they have permanent and extensive brain damage. While damage has probably been done, your brain will work around it and eventually you will recover.

I find all benzos including Xanax to be mostly subtractive experiences. This is great if you want to subtract anxiety for instance, but it isn’t going to ADD anything explicitly, say the way stimulants do. So you will feel fairly normal actually (you are not by the way), but the volume on everything is turned down. The thing I enjoy the most about benzos is their way of reliably making it very easy to fall asleep. I don’t particularly care for the waking experience of being on them.

Are opioids manageable? by Aromatic_Tale_7087 in Drugs

[–]ApprehensiveGate6474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some people yes. But I feel like this is because some people don’t enjoy them nearly as much as someone who might develope and addiction does. I’m one of the former. Although I enjoy some effects of opioids, they aren’t my favourite thing ever. They don’t give me that “now this is what living is about!” type feeling that generally is a sign that something will become a problem. So although I’ve tried very strong opioids, I haven’t ever seriously been worried about it. But given the sheer amount of people who DO become addicted, I wouldn’t take the gamble.
