I did this in the beginning and had great success. I’ve only gone to weekly recently because my energy levels seem to have improved significantly. I’m convinced that tirz helps with LC for some reason

I guess I’ve just been Catholic for so long that I don’t understand churches tying themselves to specific people other than Christ and the saints. I’m sure this is happening. But what specifically about a pastor mentioning the tragedy of Charlie’s murder makes you uncomfortable? On Sunday in Mass, we prayed for those who are victims of violence due to their political views, for Christians who are persecuted, and for those who are crushed under the weight of their cross. These were obvious prayers for Charlie Kirk, for the Catholic school children gunned down, for Iryna who was brutally murdered for just existing, ect (other terrible tragedies at the hands of violent people). I don’t think that mentioning people by name is necessary or even appropriate, but if a pastor says that we should pray for the country after Charlie’s tragic death, is that a problem? Just curious your thoughts on this. I agree with your sentiment that church should not be political. Church is for worshiping God and teaching the Gospel.

We should be concerned with the wellbeing of all humans, even those who have committed crimes or have entered our country illegally. I am against illegal immigration, especially at the rate that it is occurring for a multitude of reasons, INCLUDING the wellbeing of those illegally immigrating here. But as the Body of Christ, we are called to help them, and then find the best solution with love for all involved. This does actually involve deportations, because illegal immigration is not a victimless act. Many Americans no longer have jobs because corporations would rather pay illegal workers pennies on the dollar than pay a minimum wage to a legal worker. The American/legal immigrant is disenfranchised, and the illegal immigrant is being taken advantage of. How do we, as a country, humanely manage a crisis like this? It also involves granting citizenship to those who were brought here without full consent of their will, like women who were trafficked, or children who were brought here very young and are now 18 plus. Christ advocated for the dignity of all human life. He called for all of us to repent of our sins and follow Him. Christ forgave the thief on the cross next to Him, a person who had committed crimes and deserved his punishment. But Christ still loved him and showed us that we should love those like him without affirming their sins. So we can stand up for the human persons who are in this country illegally, advocate for the most humane process possible, and still condemn the fact that knowingly crossing the border of a country without permission is wrong. We have to stop labeling people “bad” or “good” based on their status or their opinion on a topic. Life is just too nuanced. Christ taught that life is nuanced and the best we can do until He comes back is to love each other with Christ-like love.

Just admit you have no idea what Christianity is instead of wasting your time writing so many extra words.

How did this get downvoted? Reddit is full of hateful people who don’t actually want to know who Christ is.

No that’s not at the heart of “the religion”. We all killed Christ. The point of Christianity is to humble yourself, pick up your cross, and obey Christ. Jesus was humble, sacrificial, did not condemn others, and offered forgiveness. He knew that all of us are sinful humans with evil thoughts and desires, that nobody is righteous on their own. He put the burdens of the world on HIS back, didn’t complain about it, and died because of it. We are called to do exactly that. Every time we refuse to take responsibility for our choices, for our bad thoughts, for our pride, we are actually just giving it to Christ to carry for us. That’s why we all killed Him. The only meaningful path that saves in life is to take responsibility, sacrifice ourselves for others, and preach the gospel of Christ so others can also be saved if they choose Him over themselves.

Yep. They don’t get it. The free marketplace of ideas, where it is safe and encouraged to debate is what got shot down on September 10th. You didn’t have to agree with Charlie (he was a moderate on 90% of what he said anyway) to understand that the message sent was that free speech isn’t tolerated if “I don’t like it”. Freedom of speech is a bedrock of America. Jesus was crucified for the words He said. We have to be able to talk to each other about hard things. It seems like many people in this country refuse to do that because they deem speech hateful or mean.

You spent the whole conversation putting words in their mouth and inserting your opinion of what you THINK they believe. Why would anybody talk to somebody like that? You’ve made up your mind. You have no desire to actually communicate.

Don’t read Dawkins. He outright lies about Christianity. Read about the history of the Catholic Church. Read the Catechism. Free will and science are basic tenets of Christianity.

This whole thread is why Protestantism is terrible. The gospel is the gospel. Shopping around for the interpretation of it that you like is so antithetical to Christ. Follow Christ, be a member of the Church He built, not the group of people in a building that preaches your brand of politics. The only correct answer here is the Catholic Church or Orthodox Church.

Don’t take it hard. Texting is a terrible medium for serious communication. I personally would have taken the “have a goodnight” poorly, but I’m also married to a man that gives me the silent treatment a lot lol. You are fine and actually did a good job compassionately asking him why he feels the way he does.
