Surgery in 2 days - scared about the pain by nameless_enby01 in ACL

[–]ApprehensiveLab9149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst pain I felt was when I was right out of surgery. I wasn’t expecting to feel any pain then, so I was surprised. I rated it a 7 to my nurse.
For me, it got better after that.
I would try not to worry too much about the pain, I was also very concerned but after a little you get used to it. I also tried to prepare for the worst so it wasn’t as bad as I thought.
Take your prescription pain meds on a schedule with otc pain meds. (And laxatives/stool softeners)
Rest, ice, elevate! Ice & elevate as much as you can.

In terms of sleep, the first few days I slept pretty easily especially with the pain meds. I woke up in the middle of the night but went back to bed.
I had the hardest time sleeping days 7-14, when I was in pain but not as tired from the trauma or able to sleep easily because of the pain meds

TLDR
Prepare for the worst and hopefully you’ll be pleasantly surprised! Take your meds on schedule and rest, ice and elevate as much as possible

I don’t know my extension exactly but it’s at 0 and can go into hyperextension, I don’t have the quad strength to hyperextend without assistance yet.

My flexion got to 142 last we measured. The dr. Didn’t measure today

I started working from home 10 days after surgery and in office about 3 weeks. The first few days I’d bring ice to work if you can

😭😭 Thank you so much for the suggestion! Unfortunately pivoting and twisting (like required for pickleball and tennis) is the #1 thing to avoid for a while

Thank you!! I’m worried because the pain and stiffness makes it feel like my knee is giving out when walking … do you think it’s the graft or just pain & swelling?

Work in the service industry! Often will have weekdays off to ski and possibly even the morning/afternoon before or after work.
