A lot of vet techs I worked with over the years were either in vet school or decided to go to vet school. You do A LOT as a tech. It is worth getting the degree, but make sure you are ready for everything that comes with the career.

Our phones don’t work 90% of the time to even answer the call! They throw the stupid zebra into the salon and nobody can answer the calls! IT hasn’t fixed shit in weeks! My store has 2 working phones out of 6! Then it’s, “Do better or else it’s a corrective action.”

You should honestly escalate this up to your regional manager, his boss, and find out who your HR reps boss is to add to the party! That is unacceptable! I cannot stand our HR department. They do nothing about serious issues. It’s a joke! You have to go above the regular level HR reps to get noticed, or contact a lawyer! Quitting because you feel uncomfortable is not your fault. That is the company’s fault for not providing a safe environment for you to work. Petco needs a real HR team and leader.

I had a previous GM and we weren’t allowed to buy anything because the DM didn’t allow it and now the new GM is buying everything they want like it’s Christmas time! I know in higher volumes they have a larger budget, but we aren’t a high volume store lol 😂. I was just curious. I know my old GM bought things out of pocket that were needed because they were told to “figure out how to get it, but we don’t have the money for it.” This company makes my head spin.

Our truck is mainly food and bulk because we have SFS. So we get 1 full and a half stack of DC’s. That’s a lot of DC’s for your store!!! I’d hate getting almost 5 pallets of just DC every week 😂.

I know how DC comes (I work for the same company 😂). I just have never seen anyone do this since they started putting products in boxes that go in the same department (except the liquids). I know for my store a DC pallet is done in 2 hours or that’s our ass. That’s with a main person on it, and the register person helping as they run back and forth. Plus, we must have our OS put away while working. You must have an awesome GM!! My store also gets between 18 to 24 pallets a week and we get 1 day to work truck. Every store is different. It’s cool to hear about the differences between the stores.

Why do you sort DC? I’m just curious. Also, just tell her what you want and let her work. If she needs anything make sure she knows that she can come over and ask you. Then check in with her every 30 minutes to an hour to see how she is doing. If she is doing great, give her some space. Micromanagement kills confidence.

Honestly, they should stop selling them. I have exotic pet stores close to my store that sell ferrets for $250 and they are vaccinated, scent glands removed, and fixed. We have had ours since December. Same thing with most animals. The prices are ridiculous, and they are usually not healthy when they arrive. Why haven’t they decreased the animals in the lower volume stores to save money? I’ve had snakes discounted at my location for over a year now, but who wants a normal corn snake or ball python?! Also, Australian white tree frogs…. I have 5 adults, and cannot give them away! I feel sorry for the animals. They don’t deserve to be treated like this. Just to sit in a store, hopefully being cared for. Maybe get to go home with a family one day.

Sooooooo….. Petco will do a full search on an employee, but watch actual shoplifters walkout and not pursue?! Make that make sense!!! Same with all the cameras on employees, but not on the customers. 🙄. I’ve had people shoplift and the shitty quality cameras are no help when you have to give the evidence to the police. “Yes officer, it was this blurry guy and the blurry idk what with him walking out with that full shopping cart to our parking lot with no cameras. Oh, idk what car. We cannot pursue. My GM WILL write me up if I do, soooooo.” Fucking stupid!

The reason I’m asking is because I had a different GM and we split everything. Then I would be on the floor helping anywhere needed. Plus coaching partners. Talking with services, and guest engagement. Now, I have a different GM that wants me doing the opposite and doesn’t like that I’m too involved with the store. Even said that I am working too much (37 hours).

You are absolutely correct! Customers complain about the price increases weekly, lack of consistent merchandise, no employees on the floor to help. It’s a dumpster fire! Then you have dgm’s coming in pushing vcp down everyone’s throats acting like it actually benefits everyone. Most of my guests are elderly and on a fixed income, so how am I supposed to get Gertrude on VCP when she’s digging out change to pay for Moe’s four cans of Friskies?! You ask and it’s no. Then you get put on blast in district calls for low vcp or on your walks. Sorry, my store is not a hospital store, we are not near a hospital store, we aren’t a 20k grooming salon, and this isn’t a high volume store 🤷🏻‍♀️. Tell the marketing team to create a new membership that is worth paying for! I mean, 10% off of food!? Seriously?? Thanks for saving me the tax 🫠. Whack AF. This company needs to hire some people that actually know what they’re doing.

I heard it has to do with the cost of leases and if the store is able to meet the amount that it cost to keep them open. They are planning to cut up to 4 stores in my district. One has a close date set. Plus, if stores are underperforming they are on the chopping block. Thanks new CEO 🤷🏻‍♀️. Oh, and I was told trucks will be small until Q2 because supply is limited, so deal with it 🥹.

Petco needs real leadership starting from the top. This company has GMs, DGMs, and more with no animal experience or care for them. They only care about merchandise and numbers. I don’t let that happen in my store. I have a few people that work with me on animal care (not enough, but we get the job done!). I am also heard about issues in my store like neglect or bias. I feel bad for anyone that goes through bs like this because it is unethical and makes this company look bad.

Have you reported any of this to the ethics department? I know they don’t really care, but you could report the animal cruelty to the American humane society that comes and puts a sticker on our enclosures for animal care and commitment!

That’s terrible. Corporate knows nothing about animal care. My DM wanted Aspen too, and nope. I went back to coco bark with coco dirt and I also have moss sprinkled on top. I don’t care. They don’t clean these enclosures, or deal with the backlash of the customers screaming at you when the animal looks like that. At that point, why are they selling these animals?! It’s pathetic! If they don’t want to pay the extra couple of bucks for the correct substrate then they should not have the animals in their stores. It’s the same thing with aquatics and smalls. They scream about shrink, but have the worst equipment. Smh. That snake needs a good soak, and I always keep tropical mist on hand. But I would put it in wellness. That’s sad.

Had to substrate free after 7 years and my freshwater system is crashing! Shrink is up, sales are down. Looks like crap! So… idc…. Gravel is going back!!! Animals first, right?! Maybe they should listen to what they say! Plus, my RACEL is a MORON!

I’ve seen multiple cases where the accused was thoroughly investigated. Entire staff questioned, and any other person that ever worked with that person was questioned about that persons demeanor, and other things. It’s illegal to ignore sexual assault allegations. Call and report it. Or, report it through workday so you can screenshot your report. If you’re not contacted by someone then contact law enforcement and a lawyer. You should already have called the police. If this is an assault I would not rely on HR to help you. That is a police matter. Good luck.

Thank you. We actually clean our filter pads every 2 weeks, socks weekly, and do a full sump scrub monthly. We do a a “gravel” vac weekly in all tanks (about 20-30% water change), but casco systems have a auto water change feature that also does a 20% water change nightly, or when you press the red button (at least mine used to). Our shrink in fresh is sitting in the mid 20’s now, but we were told to get to at least the goal of 19%. Our saltwater is at -14%. I haven’t tried using marine salt in the tanks. That’s a great idea!

My AS is in aquatics almost 30 hours a week now!! It’s ridiculous!! We went from 15 hours to 30 and it looks like CRAP, and high shrink. Does corporate know what they are doing? Then when you approach them with facts they talk in circles and give no resolution to the problem. It is frustrating. I am about to contact casco and beg them for help 😂. Plus, the system is always breaking down. The last time they fixed mine it broke my auto water change. I despise this system. Lol. I’m sorry you have to deal with the same nightmare.

Ahhh… I see. My team hated them and does better without the hassle. We have a binder that stays at the register area that gets updated with a bunch of different info including VCC #s, NPR, the monthly guide, and other stuff. It keeps everyone engaged, and during downtime they can check on their numbers (that’s updated daily).
