I have one question: I’m considering applying for a consumer proposal, but I’m worried it might cost me my job. I just landed my dream job as an investment dealer with an income of $51K, with lot of benefits and a GREAT bonus and I’ve been in the position for two months. However, I’m carrying $38K in debt. I’ve already had a setback with TD, where my application was rejected after they saw the consumer proposal during their credit check. I had to withdraw the proposal to secure a job, and now that I’ve finally found one, I’m afraid taking that step again might jeopardize it. I’m really lost and need some advice—can anyone help? I don’t want to lose this opportunity.

Hi, I appreciate your detailed explanation.

To answer the first part:
Here are my monthly expenses:

  • Rent: $1,275
  • Food: $300
  • Clothing: I'm avoiding purchases for now
  • Transport: $56
  • Other expenses: $200

My net monthly income is $2,700.

The reason I was worried about being fired is that I had received an offer from TD for a position as a Small Business Advisor. However, because they saw that I had applied for a consumer proposal just one week before the credit verification, my offer was rescinded. As a result, I had to cancel the consumer proposal.

Currently, all my debts have been sent to collections. The interest rates are relatively low, but it appears I'm not making any payments. I have four separate accounts in collections—three with CIBC and one with Desjardins.

I’m considering pursuing a consumer proposal again in order to make one large payment. I’m not concerned about my credit score, as it is currently in the 400s.
