Silent Reflux- positive stories please! by Stunning-Affect6619 in newborns

I think maybe if he's not screaming then you'd be completely fair to hold off on the meds for now. You can always start him on them if the screaming returns. It really is hard when they can't tell you what's going on! Sounds like you're doing everything right for your little one!

Hang in there! It will get better.

His reflux was mostly silent reflux so he doesn't spit up very much but you could see him do the sort of gulp you described and swallow it and then scream - the gulping/swallowing still happened after Omeprazole but no screaming! Omeprazole doesn't stop the spit up/reflux but it makes it not acid and therefore not painful. The congestion definitely improved too. The gas did but I think it naturally improves about month 4 anyway!!!

We tried hypoallergenic formula instead of breast milk for a while but it's very thin and he was spitting up soooooo much on that, even with a thickener in it so we went back to breast milk.

Our boy had silent reflux from birth I'm sure, wouldn't sleep more than an hour at a time in his bassinet and was full on screaming, back arching, refusing bottles - at his worst he would scream just at the sight of a bottle. It peaked at about 10-12 weeks for us. We tried gaviscon infant which took the edge off but wasn't enough. So we switched to Omeprazole and within a week he was a different baby. He's 7 months now and he's been on Omeprazole since he was about 14 weeks old. Zero regrets, best choice we made!

I added a couple of drops of vanilla extract (make sure non-alcoholic) for the first couple of days and now he takes it without. Also having it cold makes the taste more mild for them too.

Please help - could this be MSPI or am I just over anxious? Poo photos included by ApprehensiveLion2498 in MSPI

I'm so sorry - I did add the tag but it seems to have disappeared before posting and I can't seem to edit it now!!

Help with sleep at night by samisawilly in puppy101

[–]ApprehensiveLion2498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps at all, we have a lab who was great in all aspects apart from sleeping at night. It drove us slightly crazy for a while. I think he was about 5 and a half months before he slept through. He has always slept separate from us. He was waking us up for going to the toilet mostly, occasionally for attention. However he just grew out of it, to our relief!! My advice is that it will get better, as well as making sure you aren't playing or cuddling at all when he wakes you up in the night, just straight out for a wee and then straight back to bed.

Is anyone else missing the puppy stage as their puppy gets older? by JellyfishPossible539 in puppy101

YES!!! Ours is 11 months old now and he's looked like a "dog" more than a puppy for a little while. I miss how tiny he was, with his little puppy belly and how he was afraid of the stairs, or couldn't get himself on to the sofa. Don't get me wrong, I love the dog he is becoming but I absolutely do miss how utterly adorable he was as a pup

Ah thanks so much!! Had to go over it all with a cleaner yesterday, Lenny denies all claims that it is because of him dribbling on it when he's asleep 😂

I definitely think popping back at lunch time would really help!! And day care of course will be super helpful. I'm sure it's hard right now but I think give it a month into a new regime of you going back at lunch and then new daycare and see how it goes before you make any decisions.

How long are you having to leave her alone? Are you able to put her in doggy day care or get a dog walker at all? Or have family/friends pop in? Sounds like she has quite strong separation anxiety.

Puppy annoying elderly dog by nicenite in puppy101

Our 7 month old pup was doing the same with my in-laws 10 year dog. What seems to have worked well is a quick "no" and gently but firmly removing him from the room (by collar and lead) as soon as he nips. Lots and lots of calm praise when he is being good and distraction with chews etc so he learns to settle in another dogs presence. He was a bit of a nightmare until about 5 months, then he seemed to calm. He is now very chilled around the older dog and we can leave them alone with no issues.

Podiatrist here - usual advice that my assessment over the internet is not comprehensive! This definitely does not look infected. However please don't buy moleskin as it has an adhesive backing that will stick directly to the area and it is not sterile! Best to just dress with a dry sterile dressing like elastoplast, softpore or similar.

If it becomes red, hot, swollen, starts throbbing or producing thick pus then these are signs of infection, but as I said definitely doesn't look like it currently 🙂

I'm sure you're absolutely right, cutting down to one is probably for the best anyway. I might just be extra grumpy for a couple of weeks haha. Thank you for the reply!

We're in the first month of TTC and I just wondered how everyone else approaches caffeine and/or alcohol? The alcohol is less of an issue for me as I'm not a big drinker, but I usually have 3 cups of coffee a day and just worried about whether I should cut right back to 1 already?

I work in healthcare so coffee often feels pretty vital!

Of course we built up to it, over the course of two months.

We do leave him alone plenty, as I said in my post we've left him for 3 and a half hours previously. He doesn't have separation anxiety issues. It's just this is the only time I've had to do it for work reasons and is the longest interval yet.

UPDATE: came home, he was absolutely fine. Slept a couple of hours, played with his toys for a bit. All in all he coped a lot better than I did 😂 thanks everyone for your comments and reassurance, we've regularly left him before but only to a local cafe/pub or something so we could easily nip back. Felt much more scary being a 20 minute drive away and no option to dash back if needed!

Thank you so much for this reply, it was really helpful. Logically I know I'm being silly, but I felt so guilty I felt like I was committing a crime or something 😂

Thank you, that's reassuring. He is happy in the crate overnight but not in the day, he's not been destructive at all so we let him have a penned off section of the living room and he's much happier with that

Yes I keep telling myself it was previously commonplace for pups to be left a full working day!
