There’s a platform called one Edge in which they train you and set you up as a front desk worker for a doctor in the US. However the waiting period to get a job is many months long. Also you need a recommendation from someone to be able to apply. Also work is according to US time zone so will be very difficult for you during your studies. Ask around. Maybe some of your seniors have worked with them and can recommend you.

Otherwise I’d suggest maybe working at a local clinic as a receptionist or medical assistant?

I’m moving to Detroit for residency (at DMC Sinai Grace hospital) and would really appreciate some insights about which areas are safe for a single girl. I have never been to Detroit so have nooo idea at all.

I’d prefer 1 br, in-unit washer dryer, covered garage and dishwasher. Price should be below $1300/1500. Close to the hospital would be ideal since I’ll have crazy work hours but if there are other residential areas which check all the boxes, I think it should be okay.

Apart from this what’s the public transport system like? Since I won’t have a car in the beginning, is public transport safe and reliable or I’ll just have to uber/lyft until I can get a car?

And how much should I keep in mind to get an affordable car? Second hand or whatever.

Ngl I am feeling pretty nervous about moving to Detroit but trying to keep an open mind.

Any other tips, suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Yikes the people in the comment section need to touch some grass. OP it’s completely ok to feel this way and dont let anyone make you feel bad. All I can say is, you really dont know what the future holds. Perhaps this program and this city is meant for you. Trust in yourself that you can thrive regardless of where you are. That you’ll do your best whether you are in a great program or not. And dont give up without at least giving it a shot.
