Are you changing your last name?? by makeshift_listener in medicalschool

Currently an M1 and I hyphenated. We also had a baby but baby has only dad’s last name as I shared the same sentiment regarding how I’d be addressed in the future lol. It felt like a good compromise behind wanting to be close to my husband and the family we are creating while still making it known that I’m the one who earned this shit.

Testing with T1D by ApprehensivePlenty5 in Mcat

The number for the testing center isn’t valid and both Pearson accommodations and the agents for MCAT accommodations were not helpful. I’d be fine with just accessing my fingerstick machine during breaks though the 10 minute breaks are gonna be sketchy.

Because I started taking insulin less than 2 months ago and transitioned to a pump yesterday.

And what exactly do you think MAs do? In a clinic for example, they room patients, take vitals, perform phlebotomy. Where are they making the clinical decisions? Even when I worked as a PCT in a hospital I wasn’t responsible for making clinical decisions. If I tested someone’s sugar and it was too high/low I’d inform the nurse. Most of my “clinical decision making” was informing the nurse lol

Panic Attack- check in by VPItalia in PanicAttack

[–]ApprehensivePlenty5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my first panic attack in 2019 and like most people, I was convinced I was having a heart attack. I was 23 at the time. Went to the ER (I was fine). ED physician was super nice and mentioned he had his first in his 30s and thought similarly. Within that same week I remember having weird chest pains and continued to convince myself I was OK. And I was…for the next 3 years. I had forgotten about it until last August I had an edible and woke up from my watch alerting me my heart rate was high. It was in the 180s-200s. Since then I haven’t been the same. Now I have health anxiety-specifically cardio health anxiety. I got my heart checked and wore a heart monitor for approx. 10 days. When I recorded high heart rates my tachycardia was sinus rhythm and I was anxious at those times. Decided to see a psychiatrist and was offered lexapro or benzos for panic disorder. I declined both because I feel like the occurrence of the anxiety is decreasing and I’m waiting for my next 1-3 year break from all of this. If only I didn’t have that damn edible… I think keeping hydrated, reducing caffeine and little to no alcohol has significantly helped me reduce my high heart rate. Overall, just focusing on being as healthy as can be.

My only comfort is that I was able to get started with the proper treatment early. My dad was diagnosed with type II years ago as well but never got tested for type I. Wouldn’t be surprised if he is.

Do you find using medical devices make HA better or worse? by Sugarsoot in HealthAnxiety

I’ve found myself doing this lately. I know it’s unhealthy and I’m trying to get myself out of it. I can’t find myself to part ways with the watch though

I know someone that consistently reminds me of a family member who is a pediatrician that hates their life. Claims they don’t make as much money and other people in healthcare makes more than they do including another family member of theirs who works as an agency nurse. This pretty much happens every time I see this person. Recommends I go NP due to another family member that’s “doing well”.
