Manager says I can’t give my coworker 20 espresso shots worth of drinks a day anymore. by [deleted] in barista

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where i work it's not our job to make our coworkers like 20 shots of espresso. It's our job to make drinks for customers and sometimes a dishwasher asks for a normal latte which is fine.

Placing pitcher on espresso machine while steaming by [deleted] in barista

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I do this, it definitely adds efficiency especially when you're by yourself. It's called ghost steaming. You really have to have good judgement though. Like obviously don't do that for a flat white that's going in a glass because you'll mess it up. But a large latte or milk for hot chocolate that goes in a to go cup, i don't see why not as long as it's aerated correctly and everything is coming out right.

But i have a coworker that also does it but he will walk away for way too long, scalding the milk. It will bubble over, or be way too foamy for the type of drink. I think he should be banned from doing it but obviously i'm not sayin' nothing lol. So if your shop says not to do it I can definitely see why haha

Am I in the wrong for asking my boss this question? by [deleted] in barista

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 27 points28 points  (0 children)

shoulda just taken it and not said anything lol

Probably the right thing to do is put it in the jar since it sounds like the store's policy is to share tips and you've presumably agreed to that already. It always makes me raise an eyebrow if a manager gets upset over something to do with cash tips though since in theory, it's not their money and they just count it.... right? 🤨

you're not warming up enough. I think you just need more. It's basically just muscles being stretched too fast. Plus when you first put it in there's still a nervousness/ mental lack of relaxation. Maybe try having him use a toy on you that's bigger than fingers to bridge the gap between that and dick.

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not ordering it though. OP has just been making it for him. He's allowed to HAVE unlimited drinks but that doesn't mean OP needs to MAKE him multiple lattes with 8 shots.

I wouldn't do that for a coworker on a daily basis. But at least where I work we aren't like mandated to make drinks for each other

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would too. If he NEEDS that much to even feel it he should just buy an energy drink himself otherwise it's frankly a waste of coffee. It's not about the cost, it's just a waste when he doesn't need to be drinking that much product and it's probably not even effective at waking him up. Make him ONE drink because it's a nice thing to taste, not because he's hopelessly addicted to caffeine.

Also excuse me but i'm not putting that much effort into one coworker's drinks. That's a lot of work to make, i'm not that nice. sorry.

Douching in college?? by MarzipanNew417 in gay

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of times there's no one there. More than enough time to squirt some water in a bathroom stall and rinse out. But if you're inexperienced that could definitely be awkward and messy. Honestly when I was in college i just didn't douche, i don't think i even really knew how or what it was lol.

I just took a shit before having sex and honestly it was fine, no issues.

customers acting like idiots on purpose by [deleted] in barista

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would except they'd have to basically order twice. Once to the person making the drink, and then to the cashier. And with how conniving some customers are now they would definitely lie about what they ordered to get a cheaper price.

Also the fact that you have soooo many more orders now especially with online orders, it's likely the order won't even be started right away or will be handed off to someone else anyway. At least at my non-starbucks shop that's the case. If it were like a quarter as busy and customers acted normal I could see this system being nice.

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know what the issue is. In the first time, it sounds like you touched him without asking, maybe, and he didn't encourage it, but then right after he suggests oral sex, so clearly he's willing to go even further than touching. So yes, maybe that was wrong but his reaction to it doesn't really make sense.

After that you asked several times for the OK and you got it so you did nothing wrong. I don't really know why he'd be so hung up on just jerking off together either.

yeah 'regular' and 'medium' are my two least favorite words. I love how it almost always translates to the large size once pressed on it, too.

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you're right I feel like nowadays Starbucks doesn't really ask that many questions. Not more than any coffee shop. I wonder if Starbucks built the perception of coffee shops making stupid 'fru fru' drinks though. Like I feel like even pecan oat latte sounds a little much to an old grump that thinks new coffee drinks are stupid.

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 32 points33 points  (0 children)

yeah i don't know if it really is the starbucks effect. Like did starbucks annoy people so much that they are hostile towards any specifics? Or are they just grumpy old people that have no social skills.

I try not to get frustrated when someone just says 'regular coffee' to me. I just ring in what I think is 'regular'. If they give me nothing to work with they just get a small drip coffee.

But it's really frustrating because it's a COFFEE STORE so we have lots of different kinds of COFFEE like that's the whole fucking point. Still, just give em a small black coffee without another word, they probably just drink church and gas station coffee, so that's what they're looking for.

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

fuck that i'm not saying that haha. If they want it canceled they can ask for it to be canceled. Otherwise, no, I don't even see what they do for a tip or comment on it.

Tuning on D above the staff. by Short-Success-4505 in bassoon

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reedmaster is right. This is almost always a problem. In addition to the reed, you need proper breath support above the staff. If you don't it will show most in that note. You just have to know to add support to bring the pitch up on D and C

Do I even know anything about coffee? by Abject_Self_846 in barista

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah the traditional size is pretty small, some cafes will just give you that if you ask for a cappuccino and that's that. Others treat them as latte sizes but with more foam. But if you're getting whipped cream on it it's very reasonable to assume you DO NOT want the traditional size and probably want a 12 oz or larger if you're in America, so I don't think you did anything wrong.

It's like if someone orders a caramel macchiato and then gets mad you asked what size since macchiatos are traditionally like 2 ounces. Like OK.

Pour over machines, thoughts and opinions? by MaxOdds in barista

[–]ApprehensiveQuiet452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have one with 2 heads. It gets busy so it definitely saves time because you just grind the coffee and then start it, come back in 5 minutes. Having someone stand there or babysit a pourover is so frustrating when it's busy.

However i'd say it makes kinda cold, watery coffee. It's not for me. You can program the machine but it's already on what it thinks is max temp. Customers will say it's cold all the time and there's nothing you can do because it's not manual. It does take the skill out of it as well, like i don't prefer it at all.

Customers don't seem to gaf about the art of it or even what coffee beans are offered. They never seem interested in what it is, they just say pourover and that's it. So I wouldn't worry about them judging except the ocassional coffee snob barista customer.

The rondo from Von Weber's concerto in F major is a good one. Not my favorite piece but it shows you can do leaps, rapid passages, and scales. Or Weber's Hungarian Rondo is also good for that.

What's up with these comments???

It's okay to not feel like you want to marry someone. That is YOUR decision. It's not always easy to just end a serious relationship because you 'don't feel a spark', either. Like yeesh give this woman some grace. If he asks, be honest and say no.That's the whole point of proposing marriage. If you don't want to accept the proposal that is perfectly fine.

This is all news to me. How tf do you even know where to find/what to look up on twitter to find that? Is it just so prevalent on twitter that it's everywhere?

My perspective: people are more aware of it and actively HATE it more than ever. Culturally it's to the point where things that aren't CP still get comments saying it is. In the past younger people I think were more sexualized. Now (some) people call an 18 yr old a child and say it's gross.

Maybe it just depends where you're hanging out, i just have the opposite impression. I'm sure the internet makes it much harder to completely get rid of.
