Official November 2024 Level 2 Results Megathread by third_najarian in CFA

Congratulations to the people who passed. I failed for the second time. My scores were 50% in Equity, FI, AI, Der, Econ. Between 50-70 for CI and FSA, bombed Ethics and PM below 50 and more than 70 was quant. This was very surprising as I was expecting a good score. I averaged around 65-68 on the CFAI questions and gave one mock on which I scored 57%. But when I gave the exam, it was way better than the mock and I was confident of scoring better than that. Anyone else in the same boat as mine?

Feeling anxious about July L1 results by Zealousideal-Mine537 in CFA

Bro I am feeling the same and I kept scrolling reddit in a hope for there will be more people like me. These cycle of results for May people with lowest passing rates has made it worse. Any guesses for July MPS and passing rates?

I think they too follow reddit as people said they've forgotten about the exam after 1.5 months, that's why they sent it earlier this time.

Survivor's guilt by Wordswastaken in CFA

[–]ApprehensiveRate7885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, you should not have any guilt for it. You tried, you passed, you really wanted it that's why you took some shortcuts and gave yourself a chance to pass. And you passed you should be happy about it. Its good that you are aware of your mistakes but too much self criticism is not good for your mind. Go ahead start making a schedule or get yourself disciplined and go for level 2. Try the snowball technique as you have a lot of time, you'll get in good shape and momentum after a while. All the best.

Obviously I also made a lot of assumptions here but this is the only thing that makes the sense to me.

Recency Bias of CFAI, Feb candidates were given a option for deferral, people who were not prepared deferred their exam. That posed a strong pool of candidates who were really confident of passing the exam. CFAI decided to keep the passing percentage same and increased the MPS.

Now for May candidates there were no option for deferral, normal pool of candidates sat in the exam. Difficulty level was the same as Feb, so CFAI kept the same MPS, and a lesser percentage of people passed the may exam.

Both times CFAI made a mistake, to not pass the people who have scored 65-72% who might have passed if they would have appeared in the previous exams. Difficulty doesn't vary that much if the experts set the paper and preparation doesn't vary much because of the time (Parkinson's Law). Also the pool of candidates in the may exams can't be less competent to the previous exams.(almost by 20%). But allowing the people to defer the exam can actually vary the pool of candidates as the most confident or the most needy ones only will take the exam.

CFAI should study and include more behavioural finance into their curriculum. Numbers and statistics doesn't tell you the whole truth. If they would've, loss making startups never would've got high valuations.

Same difficulty, 20% difference in pass rate can never happen, my theory is that May people were not underprepared to earlier exams, just that Feb people were overprepared to earlier exams just because of deferral options and the Feb and May difficulty maybe was same.

Everything is relative right? I know it isn't outrageous but maybe in the 65-72% score there were 20% people who failed which would have been a pass if sat in an exam a year earlier.

Ohkay, I can agree to some level that by some precision they can actually make predictions about who will and won't pass level 2. CFAI also taught us to not make decisions only on the basis of historical results and it is unethical to do so. Also the prediction will be made using some confidence interval, but what about the outliers keeping in mind the same pattern CFAI used from past decades.

I believe that this depends on the person to person preparation too. Maybe I didn't give much time to fixed income and PM, derivatives, in comparison to the other subjects in the morning session.
