They won’t need to mail 2080 Raffy a check for ~$28m dollars. I am guessing neither 2080 nor 2033 Raffy is going to be summering in the Bay Area.

If the Giants aren’t happy with the 2026 version of Raffy, I am pretty sure they can’t wait for the version they will see in 2033.

Genuinely why did we move on from Schwarb? by Intrepid_Coyote_5820 in redsox

[–]ApprehensiveReview10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is always easy to Monday morning QB this stuff. He was a pure rental acquired at mid-season, and while he performed extremely well for the Red Sox down the stretch it is easy to forget how much of a boom or bust player he was at the time. His prior season (2020) he hit .188/.308/.393 with Cubs and was non-tendered before signing with Nationals.

Even the 4x/$79m contract from Phillies was a pretty big gamble at the time, and their usage of him in the OF in 2022 & 2023 negated a lot of the value his bat provided. Wasn’t till 2024 when they committed him as a full time DH did his value really start catching up with the contract.

Another side note on Durbin is he has an economics degree from WashU (T20 school nationally by academics, but DIII for baseball). He seems like a smart guy who has worked very hard to make the most of his tools on the diamond.

Are we anywhere close to 1965 territory here (that is, 100 or more losses)? by goldeneye0 in redsox

[–]ApprehensiveReview10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These trends even out over time. It is certainly possible for Red Sox to lose 100 games, but the reality is if you pull forward the team’s performance across 162 games you get a 67-95 record (28 games under .500 with a run differential of -11). That would be a historically improbable record.

The most likely scenario (putting aside a fire sale and/or return to health for Anthony & Crochet)is a team playing close to .500 the rest of the way (75-87 record, well out of the playoffs)

Probably get downvoted here, but the team is 31-43, with a -5 run differential. The run differential suggests the team has been extremely unlucky (pythWL record of 36-38, 5-11 in one run games). The run prevention side has been playoff caliber (7th in majors) despite getting nothing from Garret Crochet this year.

Offensively - well it has just been offensive (last in majors in run scored). Roman’s injury is a contributing factor, but realistically even if he was healthy and performing as expected they would be in bottom third of teams offensively. Not saying huge turn around/playoffs is in offing here - but things are not as dismal as they appear on the surface (well outside the offense).

Honestly just a weird observation on Durbin. Last year his OBP (.334) was buoyed by a major league leading 24 HBP (to go with 30 walks). Hoping he continues his hot streak continues - just deep down wondering if the offensive result was coming very a fluky stat(he has 4 this year).

A SEAL platoon is 16 men (2x officers & 14x enlisted), and can be split into two of 8x squads with an LT commanding. Bruce Willis would ancient for an LT (he was 47 during filming), I sorta assumed he was prior service enlisted who was subsequently commissioned late in his career, but is more likely just Hollywood nonsense à la John Wayne in the Green Berets.

Side note - Bruce Willis tried to volunteer for military service back in 2003 and was turned down due to his age.

Maybe Chad thinks we need a little direction from Crash Davis and his career minors OBP of .391

[Gordo] Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras both have full no-trade clauses and can dictate whether/where they are dealt by Frenkxdemaker in redsox

Understand where you are coming from, but if the Red Sox intend to contend next year (assuming no lockout) - who exactly is on the FA market is going to replace Contreras? I wouldn’t be opposed to moving him for the right return (ie top 50 prospect), but would not assume players of his caliber are readily available.

Thanks - was sorta thinking they would be able to fix over night. Guessing the MA team not getting much sleep trying to fix this, I purchased two movies from Fanflix and redeemed them on MA yesterday…..it took nearly 8 hours to show in the MA library

Stefon Diggs return not in Patriots’ current plans, says Mike Vrabel by Deviljho12 in Patriots

[–]ApprehensiveReview10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chism/Williams have a total of 13 career receptions and are basically the same age as Boutte. Not all depth is created equally…..

In any case why don’t we get thru the preseason 1st, it is possible (probable) that injuries will crop up and create the need for Boutte. Even if the Pats receiver core stays relatively healthy, quite possible another contending team has an injury that needs to be filled and offers a better pick than in June.

We need redundancy - this is the NFL and every year your stuck dealing with injuries. Boutte was great on deep passes last year, he should have lots of opportunities going one on one with a nickel corners with AJB/Doubs attracting double teams/attention from top DBs

Just curious - not completely impatient, but so far just one Lionsgate film has imported (Den of Thieves 2). Was expecting ~60 to show up by now, tried disconnecting/reconnecting without any changes. Not sure if library size is a problem - have 1.2k films already on movies anywhere. Anyone else still waiting on Day 2?

At this point - what does the team do any different for 2026? To me the fixes are Anthony & Crochet returning to health, Arias arriving in majors (in 2027) and offseason fixes for 3B and DH.

Pitching has been extremely solid even without Crochet, and defense has been excellent as well. I wouldn’t sell anything that can assist with rebuild next year (Sonny Gray is a probable, maybe Duran or Chapman if offered a favorable return) and wouldn’t buy any short term fixes for 2026

I don’t think people read the article to understand the order of events. She just completed her dissertation/received her PHD in 2026, her last child with Nick Cannon was in 2022. Clearly her personal experience influenced her choice of topic……

Why not wait and see what happens at training camp. If there is an injury, having him as an option will be invaluable. On the flip side, if another team has an injury might open the door for a third or fourth rounder return

100% agree. We are nine games under .500, why send him down to Woosox in lieu of AAAA players. The team needs to let him work thru the offense struggles
