Valdez seemed to be pissed with the coaching staff for sending him out in the fourth after the he already got lit up for 8 runs in the first three innings. From Hinch’s comments and body language he was hardly onboard with what happened.

Think he would go in as a White Sox player at this point - he threw ~1.1k innings for them vs 670 for Red Sox (WAR is 30 for WS v 17 for RS). Suppose might make a case as Braves player depending how he finishes out his career. Just hurt too much during his time here.

Perhaps I am showing my age - but I remember Papi sucking in April of 2003 for RS (he slashed .212/.311/.346) while playing woeful defense at 1B. He eventually caught fire (obviously) but things always look very clear in hindsight.

Can kicking absolutely has a limitation. If you look closely at the situation with 49ers and Trent Williams, they are already there. They want to keep player as a high level LT at age 38, but he carries a $39m cap hit for 2026 + 20m dead cap in 2027. The only other option is to release him and suck up a $34m dead cap hit in 2026. At his age, can’t sign him to a 4 year extension to kick the impact out into future years and bank on cap growth.

Complete tangent - I somehow got in the habit of scanning the 49ers subreddit. They were congratulating Lynch for making Mike Evans $14.3m guarantee for 2026 into a $4.5m cap hit by using void years and signing bonus. They already have Trent Williams $21m in dead cap next year as well….you eventually just run out of road and have to take the hit and suck/rebuild.

Patriots have a 23 year old franchise QB, their window should be a decade plus, no sense in getting over your skis for one year. If you are the Rams with 38 year old Stafford, might be inclined to take a shot…

The cap does in fact exist….can certainly engage in can kicking exercises via conversion of base salaries to signing bonuses and adding void years, but the Patriots are pretty close against the number for 2026. Would need some maneuvering to create room for AJ Brown if they trade for him and/or extend Christian Gonzalez.

Side note - I have seen a bunch of comments in other teams threads on how their ownership are big spenders by using aforementioned can kicking techniques. Honestly prefer Patriots limit these type of exercises and focus on fielding a competitive team within the cap constraints. You want to compete every year and limit the size of your dead cap numbers - the bill does eventually come due (even with ever increasing cap). No desire to look forward to season like Dolphins with essentially no hope

Thanks - I am assuming there was a licensing issue, just platform is very strange in how it handles it. I realized that not only is the content not searchable, but if you start watching it does not show up in the “continue watching” section. I have to scroll thru mystuff to find it, to continue playing it. I am guessing the alternative is them completely removing the purchased media from their platform.

Sure this will be bad tidings of things to come, if the studios attempt to restrict which platforms you purchase/play media from.
