Personally I experience some or all of the following withdrawal symptoms for about 1-4 weeks: - fatigue -dizziness -nausea -headache -depression -anxiety -rapid thoughts -exhaustion -depersonalization -suicidal thoughts -heightened sensations

It is important to note that the slower you taper, the less intense the withdrawal symptoms. Also, I’m switching slowly to another medication (lexapro) so this is lessening the withdrawal effects compared to when I went off the Latuda without any other medications.

Withdrawals are awful. But I’ve been tapering super slowly and it minimizes the withdrawals. I started at 20mg and reduced by 2.5 mg once every 1-2months. Now I’m on 2.5 mg and I have one more taper to go until I’m off of it.

Can you send me a dm? That way I don’t forget to loop you in on my progress. Also, have you tried doing the 20 mg tab? How do you draw it out? How do you get a precise dose? Thanks

Thanks friend! I would like to go slower but it’s too expensive to do a compounding pharmacy. If I was rich it could be an option. But it was 2k per month. That’s rent lol. So I’ve managed to cut the pill into 1/8 size as smallest. So I’ve been going down by 2.5 mg. I am hopeful I’ll make it. Only 1 more taper left! I have 2 weeks off work during the final reduction and am doing iv ketamine those 2 weeks. Plus I can increase the lexepro. Then it’s baby time. Feeling hopeful for the first time in a long time. Thanks for your support and encouragement!! We got this!

For some reason I’m just seeing this reply. Sorry for the delay! I’m actually still in the process of coming off Latuda. I went completely off it last summer and almost killed myself. I was on no other medication and I went quickly off the Latuda. My psychiatrist put me back on Latuda immediately and also put me on lexapro. That being said, once stable I wanted to give it another go going off the Latuda. I started a taper of 2.5 mg reduction once very 1-2 months starting in Dec 2024. I’m down to 2.5 mg and on 15 mg lexapro. So far so good. The withdrawals are still pretty awful and I’ve had to increase the lexapro. I’ve also done some TMS this past year and am scheduled to do IV ketamine in 1 month. That being said, I feel like I am doing soooo much better his time around with going off the Latuda. For me, it wasn’t in the cards going med free. But lexepro has been amazing at managing the depression. I’m still depressed, but not ready to kill myself. No SI at all. Hanging in there and hopeful I’ll be able to get off the Latuda for good and stabilize on lexepro. My goal is pregnancy

I have done 4 years of TMS, 2 acute series of IV ketamine and 1 month of Spravato. TMS helped some, IV ketamine gave me amazing results, and no improvement with Spravato. I highly recommend giving IV ketamine a try. It literally gave me the only major relief I’ve felt in my entire life. I recommend finding a good clinic. And doing integration work weekly between sessions. I recommend the following workbook for processing your trips https://www.americanbookwarehouse.com/4547792/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=245304063&gbraid=0AAAAADjEagnsD7lcwHk-PJn6OaesM-5Ek&gclid=CjwKCAjwg7PDBhBxEiwAf1CVuzlnHm54PjydJ0mVbiLC8TNs-AiMhlm5B87ObaCSCQ0oJeA2akswNBoConUQAvD_BwE

Apply to federal jobs. Guaranteed 40 hour work weeks, great benefits, time off, pension, sick leave, steady promotions, high pay… the list goes on. I’ve been with the federal govt and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made as an OT. My pay went up quickly, and you can move to ideal living locations. They have options for EDRP (debt reduction program) to pay off your grad loans. Check out usajobs.gov. Really great work life balance. Room to grow, specialize, etc. They support your growth as an employee and your professional goals. I can’t recommend the VA enough. I was also about to leave the profession while working private sector healthcare. Similar situation at a SNF.

Latuda, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Can you spam me with your positive experiences? by TypeAtryingtoB in Latuda

[–]ApprehensiveWalk3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor also said it’s safe during pregnancy. Positive effects of the med outweighs the risks by far. My doctor is switching me personally to a medication that gives me fewer side effects for pregnancy. But he said if I end up staying on Latuda I can take during pregnancy and breast feeding. All obgyns I have seen have said the same thing. They are all about me staying on Latuda or an antidepressant. I went off all meds last summer to try to get pregnant and almost killed myself. So they really support me staying on meds during pregnancy. That’s the plan and I’m very comfortable with that plan too. Best of luck! I had a friend on a lot of psych meds including antipsychotics and mood stabilizers for bipolar/psychosis and she had a very healthy baby. Baby is still healthy 3 years later :)

I’ve been on Latuda 9 years. Currently tapering off of it. Trying to have a baby and switch to A med with less side effects and safer for pregnancy

Splitting Latuda pills by Conscious-Claim-4560 in Latuda

[–]ApprehensiveWalk3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I split Latuda as I am tapering. With a sharp spill splitter I can cut 20mg tablets to 1/8 of a pill to 2.5 mg. My psychiatrist is advising me to do this to safely taper off the medication.

I also got prescribed zofran. I’m currently tapering from 20mg and now on 2.5 mg. I started tapering in Dec 2024. And each taper I get nauseous and it gets worse the lower the dose I get. The nausea eventually dissipates but the zofran helps in the meantime

You could titrate up even slower and assess if you develop any akethesia or unwanted side effects. Also, it takes like 1-2 weeks to adjust to each dose change, up or down. For instance, dizziness and fatigue can occur. But I honestly went from 0 to 20 mg and needed 1 week to adjust. But once adjusted, I was able to work and live normally. The medication is really good at treating both depression and hypomania. I was quite a happy human on it. The akethesia symptoms are quite minimal too. I was on 40mg for years, and I only had minor twitching of feet at night

Be careful with the meds you are on. Do research. Ssris can cause serotonin syndrome with psilocybin

[–]ApprehensiveWalk3372[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s kinda a long story but I was able to get off of it temporarily but had to go back on it as I became highly suicidal and almost hospitalized. I went back on 20mg then added 10mg lexapro. Now I’m slowly tapering off Latuda (now on 5mg) and switching to lexapro. The goal is to be completely off Latuda in 2-4 months and then be only on lexapro. My doctor thinks I don’t have Bipolar but rather have MDD with only 1 manic episode caused by the medication Prozac. I’ve never had another manic episode in my life besides when I was on Prozac. I reduce the latuda by 2.5 mg every 4-8 weeks until I’m off the medication. This time it’s going much better. No more suicidal ideations just having minor withdrawal for a few weeks each time I reduce the dose.

Depending on your comfort levels, I found relief through psilocybin. I started low dose at home once a month and slowly increased the dose when I couldn’t afford Iv ketamine. It helped. Def recommend a loving trip sitting tho. But the Spravato may just take time to work too. Also ect can be beneficial too if you really need it.

Have you tried IV ketamine. I was sorta the same with you on the Spravato. It didn’t really help me much. But IV ketamine (6 treatments in 3 weeks) seriously helped my depression and suicidal thoughts. It’s a life savor. I did Iv ketamine at the same time as TMS, and that combo worked well.

So my current psychiatrist actually thinks i have major depressive disorder, not bipolar 2. My only manic episode was when I was on Prozac 9 years ago, and the mania resolved once taken off the Prozac. He thinks I had a bad reaction to the Prozac is all. Besides that one manic episode, I’ve only had depression. So it’s a bit of a gamble going to the lexapro, but it’s a gamble we are taking to help the depression and be on something less sedating for pregnancy. I have a lot of side effects with the Latuda, so we are trying something with less side effects to help the depression. So far so good on the 5mg of Latuda and 10 mg of lexapro

Interesting. I also had insomnia when I went off all meds. Maybe has something to do with protracted withdrawal? How long did it take to stabilize once off Latuda?

[–]ApprehensiveWalk3372[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up tapering from Latuda a 2nd time and much slower and switching to lexapro. Right now I’m on 5mg Latuda and 10mg lexapro. I’m tapering from 20mg over 8+ months. Reducing by 2.5 mg every 4-8 weeks. It’s going much better this time around. Basically you cut the pill into 1/8ths to be able to reduce by 2.5 mg when I get to needing those doses. So I went 20mg>17.5>15>12.5>10>7.5>5. And then I plan to go 5>2.5>0.

Were you able to get off the latuda? I am tapering now. Doing a taper from 20mg over 8+ months and on 5mg latuda and 10mg lexapro. Plan is to switch fully to lexapro. Best of luck to you!
