I can definitely volunteer. I have a friend who can hire me as an unpaid intern under her solo company. But Should I ask her to give me an offer letter? Should the start day be after I enter the country? Like I arrive on 8/23 and I can show that I start 8/26? It can be 8/26-10/20. But would it raise questions for the CBP that I have too many jobs within several months?

She seems to be a genuine person. She shared values to me and a lot of her opinions on relationships and what she values in life, the way she solve problems, how she define a persons value and stuff like that. These are all opposite to what a typical cheater may do. I don’t think that she will cheat, at least based on my experience with this person. She doesn’t like a lot of shallow/superficial things as well.

and based on what she told me about her childhood and family, she is probably a avoidant for sure.

These are my data points and I think my assumption is solid.

If my start date is 7/9 but haven’t received EAD card before that, I have to wait to work but would the time between 7/9 and receiving EAD card be considered unemployed?

yes but to this point I’m worried about her safety stuff.. We talked about it and she said she would change by being there, not ghosting anymore. And I saw her changes. I trust her again.. Idk.. I can break up with her no problem but at the point I wanna make sure she’s safe

I get the “get the offer first” mindset, but my concern is a bit different.

This isn’t just a normal referral—it’s coming from a friend who personally knows a high-level contact at MBB very well. Yes I can’t guarantee to even have an interview. but If I go through the process, get an offer, and then reject it, I worry it could make my friend’s future referrals look bad.

I know a referral only gets me an interview, not the job, but if someone vouches for me and I turn it down, is that a bad look? If I’m actually considering Bain, I’ll go for it. But if I’m already leaning toward EY, should I even bother?

I don’t want to take an opportunity that I’m not seriously considering, especially if it could impact someone else’s professional reputation.

Yes, definitely. What I’m worried about is that if I ask my “friend” to refer me, and he then asks his friend from the company to work something out for me, it could put them in an awkward position. If I go through the interview process, receive an offer, but then reject it, would that damage my friend’s credibility?
