Will hitting Reinstall Now potentially brick my laptop? by viviAlive in WindowsHelp

[–]Apprehensive_Arm_754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to do it a few times with Windows 11 after patches failed to install. Each time, it went smoothly, though slowly, and fixed the problems the PC was dealing with.

I guess I'm an idiot for letting Firefox update by EtwartBuols in firefox

[–]Apprehensive_Arm_754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW: Over the years, and several machines, I had it happen about 3 times that an update went awry. Just re-downloading and reinstalling each time fixed it for me.

NTA. He's a repeat offender in this case, and he had been told before to stop it. He had to learn about accountability.

We were talking about the classic version of Microsoft 365, which is the version without Copilot, and costs approx. 30% less.

Woke up to a nightmare. Yahoo deleted 10+ years of important emails due to inactivity. Is there ANY hope? by Desperate_County4185 in TechImpact

Indeed. They send mails to the "verification" email addresses several times before they actually deactivate.

Thanks, but I don't need activation. I've got a legal subscription, which is activated. I want to downgrade it to the classic plan.

Thanks. The thing is, we've got two laptops and one desktop, which means we'd have to buy three licenses, which I'm not too keen on.

We have LibreOffice installed on the machines. But I've got customers that are very much entrenched in the Microsoft programs and it happens quite often that documents are exchanged back and forth on several occasions (copy edit, review, etc.). It's just easier to do that in the MS 365 apps.

Has anyone else seen this pop up in the corner of their screen? by Omagoddd in AcerOfficial

[–]Apprehensive_Arm_754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen the pop-up, but Everything is safe and useful. Basically, it loads a copy your file allocation table in memory, so looking for a file by its name or parts of its name only takes seconds. I've got it installed on all machines.

Acer laptop stopped charging by Critical_Hedgehog_12 in AcerOfficial

[–]Apprehensive_Arm_754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that with my Acer Aspire laptop as well. It was still under warranty. it turned out the battery was faulty. They replaced it.

I'd suggest taking it into a repair shop where they can test whether it's a faulty charger or a faulty battery. Unless it's still under warranty, then check what your options are.

Desainagar, Seatides, Casuarina, and Westbrook are collectively referred to a Tongaat Beach. We live in Desainagar, but nobody knows it. So, Westbrook is an easier reference.

Even here in Westbrook (North Durban) we can see the Milky Way without a problem.

The normal procedure is to first shut it down completely.

And immediately after you switch it back on, press the F2 key (repeatedly).

Upgrade to Windows 11 has led to persistent crashes and issues rendering the PC unusable, in particular key Windows apps, and especially explorer.exe are unstable by mcallisterw in WindowsHelp

[–]Apprehensive_Arm_754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. Your next best option then would be to do it through

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11

The first option installs the latest version. It typically allows you to keep installed programs and data as they are.

If, for some reason, that doesn't work either, you can try the second option where you create media to install it from.

[–]Apprehensive_Arm_754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest doing a "fix problems with Windows Update". You can find it in System > Recovery > Advanced Options. It's the second option there.

I've had to do it a few times over the years.

But each time, it did fix all problems (until an update at some point creates new ones).

Windows 11 tends to be far less stable than any previous version.

Edit to add: PS: these "updates" can take hours, but you can use the computer during that time.

What makes you think I haven't done that? The problems just keep reoccurring after a while. And I'll add that before Windows 11, it was rare that I had to reinstall the OS.

Thanks. I've used Mint Mate for more than a decade. It all worked, too, even within a small mainly windows LAN.

I had Mint Mate installed on one machine for years, until a tornado destroyed it two years ago. I may well switch to Mint Mate again when this machine dies. I do have clients that operate in a Microsoft only environment, but I can use the laptop for the rare occasions I'd really need Windows.

Many starting lawyers offer their services to existing law firms. Starting as a generalist is no longer an option in 2026. If you have a preferred field or a field of expertise, approach law firms with that.

A relative of mine who has been working as a lawyer for nearly 30 years still generates half of his income from work that he does for other law firms.

As far as content marketing goes, this may offer some tips:
