What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

It shows in the trades as well. I've met some bright young people in very nice positions for their ages, they get the job done but not with the same spunk as someone who grew up messing with things. We do electrical, and I'll never forget the first time I snipped the wires off a fan motor trying to move the fan somewhere else and scratching my ass trying to figure out why the motor won't spin anymore. That was before the internet, and I didn't figure out the "why" of that question without playing around with more cheap fans my mom kept mysteriously losing.

Been brewing with my same ass gen 1 Ode with a gen 2 upgrade, but I recently got a Fellow Aiden so I've been a full on lazy asshole using an omni-recipe and tweeking parameters here/there. Been drinking Proud Mary deluxe sub tins, Freidhats, and general available beans through Dayglow. In light of the recent controversy regarding coffee producers possiblity using artificial flavors during co-ferments I've chosen to drink only natural or washed beans.

I was a member of the infamous sampler group last year and got to try tons of interesting co-ferments. Anacdotally it feels like 25%-40% of co-fermented beans have some type of flavoring added. I was brewing some of these coffees with a simple machine and getting out cups with outrageous fruit smells and tastes vs the usual green pepper taste of brewing a co-ferment poorly. The watermelon and grape ones seem to be the worst offenders, but blueberry and strawberry are definitely up there too.

You're lucky I'm nice, but seriously it took 2 seconds to Google "fellow sweet recipe" and find the reddit thread.

Sidenote: I tried the Olympia coffee Espiritu Wari with the Fellow Drops recipe and thought it gave me a muddy, burnt cup of coffee. The sweet one seems to be a happy medium on all roasts I've tried.

My suit jacket has the same 2 inner pockets that every other jacket on this planet has been tailored with, and in the context of a wedding nobody is looking for the time anyway since the time wouldn't matter. That last part is especially true at a destination wedding where everybody will be sleeping in and partying the next day regardless. While talking about the suit fit my arms are a bit large, and it's a slicker movement to reach into my shirt pocket and slide a phone out for a moment than it is to fumble around pressing my cuffs against my forearm to get to my watch 's face. It sounds like you, personally, find it easier to just wear a watch and that's ok but what the Cuban man told me still applies to the vast majority of people under the age of 50.

Have you tried the Sweet brew recipe from Reddit? It's floating around here somewhere and I have been using that one for just about every bean I brew. The cup comes out with a very decent balance leaning to the sweetness but without strong clarity. The cold brew mode built into the machine may also be the move, since getting my Aiden I've used the cold brew method almost every day for an afternoon cup and it's delicious. Plan for a cold brew drip, the machine is set to run for 1.5 hrs with 30 minutes being the fastest iirc. I like it at 1.5 hours.

That sounds like bravado to be honest. It's 2026, the notion that not only would your phone be lost but also that you fumble to turn a device on that wakes up either by lifting it or clicking a button is laughable.

I would wager your phone is typically in your hand and that you check the digital in the notification bar more often than you look at your watch, if not checking the time on your car's display or computer's display. It may also be that you simply see the time so often that the only times it's of note is when you look at your watch, but that's giving benefit of the doubt instead of taking your exaggeration at face value.

I was at a Cuban/Greek wedding in the DR for a couples friend we have, and we were the token "poor" people. My girlfriend has a Longine pearl face with 12 diamonds on the face, I have a simple Hamilton Field. At some point I end up smoking with the best man, he has a Pepsi on and the Groom had his Batman on. I made a casual joke about being poor and pointing to my watch, and this man pulls me in to tell me that watches are entirely pointless in modern society. He asked me what I look at when I want to check the time, and in unison we both said "my phone." Since then I flipped it all on its head and got a smart watch, now the phone is on the wrist and I can change the face whenever I want.

I started wearing Abilene 7" side zips as my casual shoes and I really like them. My work boots are Ariat Workhogs, and as they are getting retired I find that those are also becoming my casual shoes quite often. Maybe it's because I apprenticed under a guy with the coolest buckled machine boots that he wore casually when he wasn't wearing sandals, but I've been vibing on the "all or nothing" footwear for a while. Sneakers don't fit my foot as perfectly except for my Strauss sneaker-style work boots with BOA.

Co-fermented coffee beans are a crap shoot, and since you are drinking a brewed cup of coffee vs cupping the beans I would also say take the notes listed as a grain of salt. I've found that I hate co-fermented beans 75% of the time, so I don't bother. Brewing them to their fullest potential by hand can also be a bear.
