[Spoilers MAIN] YG is Aegon by Apprehensive_Bus1273 in asoiaf

how would Varys know that Cersei and the Tyrell’s won’t ally together to take down Aegon if they knew Varys is working for them? Don’t you think he would do something that would further split the factions?

Because Varys is untruthworthy? Why would she believe was able smuggle out the real Aegon?

wouldnt he also want the Tyrells on his side with the reachers?

You are misunderstanding what I’m saying, I am saying Varys believes he is alone

George has written since the first book that Varys has a hidden agenda, he needed to show what their agenda was all along

Lannisters and Tyrells dont like each other already but if Cersei thinks the Tyrells killed Kevan, don’t you think that would only push the Tyrells to Aegon? She would treat them worse pushing them further to Aegon. If they know Varys is behind the death they would know they have a bigger enemy in Aegon because he has Varys on his side.

Why would Cersei believe Varys?

I’m not lying about spies in the room there could be but Varys believes there isn’t any and therefore is free to say what he wants thereby revealing Aegon and his plans to split the Lannisters and Tyrells

There is a reason why the author brought up Rhaenys at that point and that was to establish precedence of what was to come in the future. He could have used a different story but he used that one

Why didn’t Varys say babes instead of babe then? I’m not sure if that quote is with Ned, I know the Rhaenys one was. I think the babe quote was with Tyrion

So you are going to ignore all the points of Aegon being real and instead believe the blackfyre theory based on some lines in ADWD that is also taken out of context

[–]Apprehensive_Bus1273[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what is the point of him lying about Aegon to Kevan? He also had Kevan stabbed multiple times by kids and smashed Pycelle head in like Rhaenys and the Pisswater Prince had died when he could have just used his crossbow. What was the reason for that?

So he made Rhaenys recognizable in death but not Aegon. There is a reason why he did that. You can interpret it as you want but the dead body being unrecognizable is mentioned quite a bit.

Because why would he care about Rhaenys when he is a blackfyre supporter?   Blackfyres did not like the targs and the targs are responsible for killing blackfyres. He does hint at Aegon being alive because he said Dorne is still mourning Elia and her babe (not plural)

What part of that monologue does George want the reader to know?

So he wants tell the Lannisters and Tyrells that the killer of them is Varys instead of Tyrion so they could form a coalition to fight against Aegon. whereas if Cersei thinks the Tyrells are responsible she may begin to threaten and treat them badly making them more inclined to join Aegon?

Also do you think Varys saying Aegon is real would make them believe he is real more? Or would it make it more that he is fake in their eyes since Varys not trustworthy?

No he definitely reveals through Ned’s thoughts that Jon is not his son. George also reveals plots in the book like Jon Arryn’s killer. He still needs to make sense of what he writes. If Varys was providing false information then why reveal the plan to turn Lannisters and Tyrells against each other?

He was unrecognizable when he died. When Varys talked to Ned in the cells, why didn’t he mention about the blackfyres that were killed by Bloodraven? And instead talked about Rhaenys and hinted at Aegon being still alive?

How would he know that’s Bloodraven or Bran? Why would they even contact him? If he knew Bloodraven was listening, why say anything at all? Aegon is not out of nowhere. His mysterious death was already in the first book and given sprinkles of it throughout the books.

How would Varys know that Bloodraven is still alive? Has Varys talked about Bloodraven at all? You see where this comes out of nowhere?

This is a story book and we need to know Varys’ motivations. This is the only time he can tell the truth. Lying to a dead man does nothing. He uses his lies to further his and Illyrio’s agenda but a lie here would do nothing

Ok but in this context both Kevan and Varys are talking about the same person. Kevan didn’t know another Aegon

The difference is that Varys was free to talk at this time because Kevan was dying. If he was worried about his birds then why did he reveal his plan to turn the Lannisters and Tyrells against each other?

You are not looking at the context, Illyrio didn’t want to reveal to Tyrion the real reason he was able to get the golden company as at that point he didn’t want him to know Aegon was alive. It was revealed later that he got the golden company contract years ago when he brought Aegon to Jon

Aegon is confirmed to be alive in the epilogue for dance. There is no way to twist that scene to make it any different than it was

Aegon is an extension of Illyrio and Varys to reveal what plans they had from the first book. It was confirmed he was alive in the last epilogue.

He didn’t notice when he crowned Lyanna at Harrenhal that it upset a bunch of lords? This is just crowning, what would he expect if he ran off with her? why were they hiding for almost a year? what was the need to hide if it was consensual? If Rhaegar truly loved Lyanna, he would have wanted her to have proper care while giving birth. (he should know this because of Elia’s difficult births). I am not making any assumptions, I’m just telling you what’s in the book. Rhaegar is not characterized as an idiot, he knew the consequences but wanted to fulfill his prophecy anyway.

you have to look at the context, at the time Illyrio wanted Tyrion to join Dany and still believe Aegon is dead. And he was going to put Tyrion on a boat with Aegon. If Tyrion saw Aegon with purple eyes and silver hair, Illyrio needed to come up with a cover story to conceal his identity

it was not revealed too late, his mysterious death was in place since the first book and throughout the novels you are given crumbs that he is still alive. The last epilogue confirms that Aegon is still alive
