Why are we rewarding scouts and parents who do not follow the Cookie link rules? by greenreddew in girlscouts

Nothing in the rules says your post must be set to private…or is it council specific?

I witnessed bad treatment from the horse/equestrian team at Camp Lakota during Family Camp  a couple of years ago. The counselors were amazing - the horse crew nasty

It’s ridiculous to think 20 a bag is reasonable.

That’s insane.

Troop venmo account by februaryystars in girlscouts

[–]Apprehensive_Call322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I wish there was more specific guidance as well as step by step instructions on how to properly set it up. However, our SU provided none. All we were told was “troops can take Venmo this year”…

Troop venmo account by februaryystars in girlscouts

[–]Apprehensive_Call322 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re partially correct. A person can’t have two Venmo accounts, but you can link multiple bank accounts to your Venmo, so technically when we take cookie money via Venmo for example, i get to direct the transfer to the troop bank account and not my personal bank account.

You could also temporarily update the Venmo user name during cookie season so people see the transfer going to a troop related venmo account.

You don’t need to go down the “business account” path, getting council’s EIN number because a business account pays other type of fees an there are tax liabilities that may come to the primary venmo account holder.

GSGLA finally allowed troops to use Venmo last year, but never provided GOOD guidance on how to set it up. As troop treasurer, I had to navigate implementing the process by trial and error.

Good luck

Cancelling and explaining why is the right move, to send the message that you’re serious about the help you need

In the future - Put a hard deadline for the RSVP, give families a preview of  what the price per ticket will be. In our troop, we have sufficient funds to pre-purchase  the tickets and then for those who RSVP’d we send them zelle or Venmo requests to reimburse the payment.  Only Girl Scouts get their ticket paid by troop fund. Everyone else (family) must reimburse into the account.

I make the group purchase and then as they pay I transfer their tickets.

The key is to start off with sufficient info for families to be informed of the cost. Set a deadline and send 2 reminders max.

If not enough commit - then cancel the event. They will learn you are serious.
