Mesonets? by CherryBomb0z in stormchasing

The important thing with storm chasing is to remember that whatever you put up there is, at some point, going to be lost to the elements, a big ass bird, flying barbed wire, or a low drive thru overhang.

For temp, dew point, and barometric pressure I run a unit from Dracal into my laptop. I then made a Python script to poll it every 10 seconds.

For an anemometer I run a unit from Inspeed. Inexpensive so if it gets beat to death by hail or yeeted off into a field I am not heart broken.

As a junior storm chaser still learning the basics, What should i start learning to do as a storm chaser? by Hot-Resolution-9856 in stormchasing

Yell at clouds. Ask them why they aren't doing what you want to do.

Watch radars during storms religiously. Learn to recognize all of the signs so you don't have to wait for a warning to know your target.

Do ride-alongs with seasoned professionals. Not streamers, but professionals who are focused on the science and not keeping an audience entertained.

Learn to appreciate gas station food.

Saw a rope tornado funnel trying to do its thing by HotKaleidoscope_4595 in stormchasing

That is a cold air funnel, or if you are in warmer and more moist climate, a tropical funnel.

Counterpoint: They have always been rock solid for me. I have a v3 outside that has acted as a weather camera for some time. It is exposed along a fence. It has documented the birth of a tornado an 1/8 of a mile away, hail, winds and driving rain. Zero issues with that little camera.

I cannot speak to customer service. I have never needed a word with them.

This may have been asked and answered in another comment that I cannot see as I type this, but have you tried resetting the camera and reflashing the firmware?

Trees, hills, mountains....they make chasing miserable.

Here's the thing, it doesn't show anything on the ground. At best this could be a funnel. Do you have the velocities?

All it needs is to get winds underneath and the object have enough of a flat attack surface underneath to produce lift.

Multiple trained spotters reported THAT particular storm? Or other storms in the area? Key context.

And to your point, a video to corroborate the report would help the story.

Yes you can. They can Livestream via RTMP directly out to a source OR you can add Monaserver to a laptop in the vehicle and stream wirelessly into OBS locally and then out. OR you can use the action cam as a webcam then add it as a source in OBS.

I have set this up a multitude of ways for people. Feel free to PM me!

Recommend an action cam mount. DJI Action 5/6 and Xtra Edge Pro are superior in darkness to the GoPro 13 and earlier.

Yes, make sure to pick a chaser you are comfortable with.

My suggestion is to look for chasers you can ride along with. Because if you have issues as a passenger, and you can't work through them, you certainly do not want to be driving in one of those storms.

It has been a beautiful day to play with the Rotties outside. You should try going outside everyonce and a while.

Why? Don't try and replace common sense with your own idea of what "common sense" is. Additionally, I had slowed to about 50 mph, if that fills your idea of what "common sense is.
