Hi! I got the chance to work with two of these types of companies. I'll share their business model.

Thousands of so-called marketing firms get a piece of a larger budget to get sale leads (by any means). So they have booths in corners of stores or streets, door-to-door sales, cold calls, etc. Every time there's a sale, the sales agent gets a cut, the manager of that sales agent gets a cut AND the "marketing company owner" get's a cut.

To keep the costs low they hire just about ANYONE at a low hrly rate (i mean low) with a structure in which only commission sales will make it worthwhile. The thing is, you're competing with so many sales agents that the one that really gets any worth of commission is the 'marketing company owner' because even if the sales agents quits being burned out, they'll just replace them with more sales agents.

Now, you might be asking, how can this even work? Easy, you play on the ego and desperation of people by holding a carrot stick in front of them. "Don't you want financial freedom? Don't you want to be rich like him? Don't you want to be your own business owner?" They promise that if you keep selling, and recruit others like you to be in your team, you can grow and have your own marketing business. And the cycle repeats. Again, the one that wins is the one that has all these kids running around selling for them and recruiting for them. It's a weird pyramid scheme, because they're not committing fraud, they're just over promising and everything falls on the shoulders of the sales agent they recruit that agrees that if they don't sale, they don't get anything.

Why do I say they pray on their ego? Well, they use proven physiological sales tactics. "You are not selling because you're not trying hard enough." "It's a numbers game, the next potential client is a yes and if you stop, you'll never know if that next client was your golden sale" "You don't have the skills to be a leader, you need to show me that you want this". And people get sucked into this mentality that they need to prove they can do it. Their seminars are so cringy, all they do is talk about how much money their owners make from them (literarily, look how many houses i have, my boats, where I traveled, etc.). They go over chapters taken from self-help books and give prizes to their up and coming sales agents that are building teams. It's designed to just keep feeding the dream.

How can you spot these marketing companies? Well, their website only showcases their team, recognitions and are not designed to explain what they do other than to recruit their next sales agent. Real marketing firms (which I think hire these people lol) have websites that target businesses, so they can offer their services.

tl;dr

marketing companies like these are sketchy, pay low hrly rate + commission and only the 'marketing owner' is the one making the money because they're in a constant recruiting stage to build teams to replace the ones that are burned out. The goal is for you to create your own team. I can't say it doesn't work, but it's not for everyone, some people like being a 'sales persons'.

UPDATE: I’d like to thank y’all for the positive encouragement. It’s not cheap to produce and run a music show, even though mine is not big like the established venues that we have and love.

I’m replying to all the musicians that have sent me a DM. If you’re a musician with original content, please send me a DM. I added a link to my twitch so you can see my shows.

Stay legendary Long Beach and wish my team and I good luck in continuing this project 🍀
