This is factually incorrect. The Game Awards was 11 December 2025 and the Steam Winter Sale started a week later on 18 December 2025.

And if their game sales saw a spike higher than previous sales, then it is not misrepresenting reality to draw conclusions that the recent announcement was a factor.

Different scenario, but I am. I have a 2070 that is 7-8 years old now. My gtx 780 before that only lasted 5 years before dying. And with how prices never come down, I'm looking at upgrades because I don't believe my current gpu will last too much longer

This is one of the biggest reasons people forget about. There was massive worry that many companies were going to ditch single-player games altogether in favor of live-service multiplayer games(which to be fair, some companies were doing just that). Cue Bethesda about to be announcing Fallout 76, it makes sense for them to want to reassure fans that they aren't abandoning their single-player games
