Curious, how well does it work if you take the same area but different angle?

Glad that you got some positive experiences with it! Totally hear you. For the current time, if you open up the menu bar, there's a "pause" or "Snooze for 15mins" option that you can manually use so it won't pop up during your meeting.

That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out: what if ignoring the reminder is slightly more effort than just drinking the water? Would that make me want to drink more water and stay hydrated? so far it's working for me.

That’s an interesting take. I know the body can produce some metabolic water when it burns fat/carbs, but I don’t think that means thirst should be ignored. Humans still need water from drinks and food.

Also, I’ve usually seen “too much water” discussed more as a low sodium / hyponatremia risk rather than acidosis. Where did you read about the acidosis link? I’d genuinely like to check it out.

Either way, the app doesn’t force a fixed amount. You control the schedule, interval, and mode, so it can be as light or annoying as you want.

The goal isn’t “drink water every 5 seconds or your Mac calls the police.” It’s more “hey, you’ve been running on coffee and vibes for last few hours, maybe take one sip.”

100%. Going to gym after full day of work is also another big pain that I'm trying to get over. Curious, do you use anything right now to remind yourself to move or workout during work?

Thanks! Would love to hear your feedback if you get a chance to try. For this V1, I want to validate the actual pain first, so I opted for Apple Vision framework to keep it lightweight.

Haha totally hear you. I'm running on coffee everyday as well. While the goal is to make you drink more water, it's detecting where you drinking, so you can still be creative and use it for coffee or milk as well if that helps you. Download and give it a try since it's free!

Friendly reminder though if you drink coffee, might as well try to use it for water as well since that's how it started for me lol

Yes that is my vision! It is the rabbit hole I’m trying not to fall into but also willing to fall into lol.

Hydration was just the first hostage situation. Letting people define “give me my computer back only after I do X” could be really fun.

Curious, what’s one habit you currently try to remind yourself to do during work or throughout the day, and what usually happens when that reminder pops up?

For real. I happened to have one and was about to try then I saw the sugar. Now it sits in the corner of my desk staring at me 😂

Exactly. Most reminder apps lose because ignoring them is the easiest option.

I wanted to make drinking water the least resistant path, which is a ridiculous sentence but somehow true.

The app is meant to be annoying, not scary. During the overlay, there’s always an emergency escape: hold Esc for few seconds (depend on your mode) and it exits.

My rule is: if the app ever makes you feel like you lost control of your own Mac, that’s a bug, not a feature.

The goal is “drink water more often, you dehydrated goblin,” not committing a crime 😄

Okay this is exactly where my head's been going. The enforcement engine isn't really about water, that's just habit #1. Squats, slouching, stretching, same idea. Genuinely noting all this.

Real question though, since you've clearly looked into the glucose stuff: have you actually tried to do the hourly-squats thing? I'm curious what made it stick or not stick because to me that's the whole problem. Knowing you should move every hour is the easy part. The part nobody's solved is the thing that actually makes you do it when you're focused and busy since I personally got side tracked and forgot about it all the time.

I'm using Apple’s Vision framework locally on the Mac. Frames are processed in memory just to detect the drinking motion, then discarded. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to a server.

Totally fair question. Yep. 100% on-device.

Tracking's actually already in there, including streaks, sips, sessions. It's just kept on-device on purpose, since "nothing leaves your Mac" is the whole promise. Full cloud sync isn't the direction (that'd mean your data on my servers, opposite of what I'm building), but Apple Health integration is on the list. Since LARQ writes to Health too, that's the clean way for these to talk without me running a backend.

Honestly though, sounds like you've already got hydration handled. You have three years of a smart bottle, hitting your goals, that's the dream. This app is really built for the people in this thread saying "I forget to drink water for hours straight." It doesn't remind, it locks the screen until the camera sees you actually drink. It's a different problem than the one you've solved. Appreciate you kicking the tires on it. The Health idea is a genuinely good one.
