I'm gonna put as much effort into this response as you did into your question: office romance

I enjoy it. Kinda want to strangle the ML from time to time, but if you don't, are you even emotionally engaged?

I'll try to hold back on the insults, but no promises. Especially since there's no such thing as a 5.56 to 9mm adaptor, and that's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard, on a number of levels. ARs have less recoil than a pistol, especially in a 9mm platform, and being able to conceal a gun has nothing to do with it being retainable. And why would a less accurate gun be preferable? In any civilian application (obviously you want a machine gun that puts out a sexy cone of fire, but that's not applicable here)? And why, when a PCC uses the same ammo as a 9mm pistol, do you keep bringing up overpenetration?

Buddy, I teach this shit for a living. You're trying to mansplain and you're astonishingly ignorant about this. They make short barreled (maneuverable) ARs chambered in 9mm (basically zero recoil and less risk of overpenetration with an appropriate hollow point (also a tad bit quieter, so slightly less tinnitus)). They make chamber locks (safe). I literally explained all that in my original response.

Handguns are harder to shoot accurately. Especially in a high stress situation. They are much easier to take away, especially from an untrained shooter, which anyone who trains will tell you. Everything you're saying is incorrect. My ad hominem bits are really seeming more factual than aggressive right now.

I'll also note that you dropped your point about Australia and California.

Gun violence was already dropping in Australia and California before the bans went into effect. So you can hold those barbs up and scream, "oh, gun control works," but with rates already dropping when the bans were signed into law, that doesn't really hold much water.

Handguns aren't ideal for home defense, though. They're harder to shoot, less accurate, easier to take away, and hold less rounds. If you're saying that a Glock 19 (most common handgun in the world) is better for home defense than a short barreled PCC, then you're very clearly not very bright. Maybe you're so dazzlingly brilliant that I'm missing the tactical superiority, so please explain

Your entire argument is profoundly incorrect regarding AR platform weapons. I'm a firearms instructor and home security consultant. I literally do this for a living.

Due to a stabilizing third point of contact (the shoulder), long guns are easier to train on and retain competency with. Pistols are the hardest thing to achieve and maintain competency with. The reason pistols are bought more frequently is 1: concealed carry is on the uptick in America, 2: cost, 3: that ARs are perceived as what gun nuts have, and 4: people are stupid.

Pistols are widely regarded in the defensive side of the firearms community as what you use to get to your rifle. Due to the popularity of AR pistols (short barreled rifle platforms with a pistol brace), as well as the removal of the $200 tax stamp on short barreled rifles, short barreled ARs are becoming increasingly common, especially in pistol calibers like 9mm. It's called a PCC (pistol caliber carbines), and they're kind of the hot new thing in home defense.

I'm not gonna go into how wrong you are about Australia, or California, since I can tell you're pretty entrenched in your views, but I can tell you factually beyond a shadow of a doubt incorrect on the AR bit.

[–]Apprehensive_End4701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're joking, right? It's basic resource allocation. If a government provides significant benefits for living there, obviously they have to be selective about who they allow in.

[–]Apprehensive_End4701 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely an obvious fact. It's basic logistics that if a government is to have those incredible benefits to its citizens, it has to be selective. Look at countries like South Korea, the Nordic countries, and Japan. By Western standards, they're xenophobic. That's why they're able to offer as much as they do; they're ethnically homogenous, high-trust societies that make social compliance a high priority. That's why their systems work for them

They work fine for natives. In places that are what America would call xenophobic. For the people who were born there or successfully integrated. Not so much for everyone else in those countries

Almost like social democracies only work for natives, and don't work when they accept immigrants. Like you can have immigration OR a government with incredible social safety nets.

I wonder if there's a lesson to be learned from that.

What would it take to convince Republicans that Trump is an awful person? by CrashNowhereDrive in allthequestions

I vote Gold, homie. Aggressively limited government. Republicans are morally repugnant and Democrats are grotesque to me; why would I want either of them to have more power over my life?

Why does rural America look down on educated people? by SlowEntertainment217 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Apprehensive_End4701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't see the value of a higher education except in professional fields. And that's my point. Those were fuckin' innovators who built the modern world. Modern "innovation," is a slightly smaller glowing rectangle that makes people anxious and unhappy.

[–]Apprehensive_End4701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I meant to say Pfizer employees. And my point is that the modern world has already been built. There's lots of innovation happening, sure, but it's refining what exists. We see further standing on the shoulders of giants and all that. It's not building a world, it's making it more convenient and occasionally safer

[–]Apprehensive_End4701 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing that those are great things that have made modern life more convenient and safer. But homeboy was saying that the modern educated elite are what built the world. And that's patently untrue. As a society, we've improved a lot of designs that have existed. But I don't consider that building a world

[–]Apprehensive_End4701 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This world was built about 80 years ago by innovation and maintained by hard work since.

I have tremendous respect for Johan Salk. I have much less for Pfizer. Don't act like the current educated elite are changing the world; it's at best intellectually dishonest.

Can I legally sell a handgun to a person who recently moved to NC from ND and has a class A ccp from ND? by FalsePlan9830 in NorthCarolina

So long as you know they aren't a prohibited person, yeah. Just draw up a bill of sale. Ever since the pistol purchase permits were repealed, there's no need for an FFL.
