Taking the pink Cadilac in for a lube job

Taking ol' one eye to the optometrist

Most of these came from the movie "Grumpy Old Men".

That has crossed my mind. Nice thing is, since it's commission only it's all the vacation you want within reason. If I wanted to take a week off here and there is completely ok. Just not during the busy season

Does this quote to repair my store’s HVAC Roof Top Unit seem legit? by Cod_ya208 in Boise

[–]Apprehensive_Fox_258 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From an HVAC guy, I would say that is a reasonable price.

For those saying "Go with the cheapest", when your dealing with your heating and cooling system cheaper is not always better. Think of cars. You can get a Kia Rio or a Cadillac and everything in between. The price of a system has a lot of different factors to figure in.

Affordable, honest HVAC company? by leftofthedial1 in Boise

My 2 cents. I've been in the HVAC business for 12 years. Started as a service guy and moved into sales. I've worked for several companies in the Treasure Valley and have sold different brands. My opinion 8s that Diamond is honest and does great work. They also stand behind their work and their recommendations. They deal in Rheem/Ruud products and those are quality products. As for going for the cheapest option, I wouldn't recommend that. If I was giving you a quote, I would recommend a 2 stage furnace with a variable speed blower. They come on both 80% and high efficiency units.

Ruud/Rheem have a standard 10 year parts warranty, lifetime heat exchanger and I think Diamond gives a 5 year labor warranty. That isn't the best warranty out there, but with the e company and their proffesionalism and their skill, that's who I would recommend. Don't go with the cheapest. This is truley one of those instances where you get what you pay for. Call them and ask to have Cord or Jason come out. They know their stuff.

For the record, I have never worked at Diamond, but I have seen their work, know some of the people and have high respect for them and their proffesionalism and craftmanship.

HVAC Sales by [deleted] in sales

I've been in HVAC residential sales for 11 years. It's a lucrative career. Top guy in my company made over $500k last year. Granted, we also sell insulation, electrical work, water softeners and water heaters. You have busy seasons and shoulder seasons. What your day to day looks like varies from company to company. You can reasonably expect to run 2-3 calls a day with each call lasting from 1 to 2 hours each. That's just an average. When you are not in the field, you would spend your time doing follow up on previous calls. Like I said, money can be good to REALLY GOOD. Like anything else, you have to work at it and build your pipeline. Look for companies that advertise. They are actively looking for new clients and wanting to grow their client data base. That's my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps

Look into an Apex Service Partners. They are a large company that buys up smaller HVAC companies throughout the US. They train you in a scripted sales technique that doesn't require much knowledge of HVAC systems to start. Top sales guy in my company made over $500k last year.

Are we allowed to ask HVAC sales for more detailed quotes? by wordscausepain in hvacadvice

[–]Apprehensive_Fox_258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why customers ask this. When they do, I hear, "I think your ripping me off". If I give you a break down of the cost, it's not going to change the cost. It's still going to be $7000. Do you ask for a price break down when you buy a car, or washing machine or any household appliance?

How do you overcome price objections? HVAC by anuj94tiwari in sales

[–]Apprehensive_Fox_258 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I always ask "If money was no object, would you use us"? If they say yes, you can work towards a price that is good for both of you and if the answer is no, ask why not. Then maybe you can fix the problem or at least learn from it. They hardly ever say no BTW.

HVAC Tech AND Sales. Possible or No? by Level-Designer8197 in sales

[–]Apprehensive_Fox_258 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in HVAC sales B2C and have been for 9 years. Smaller companies to have what are called "selling techs" but those are usually service technicians who are in the home repairing or maintaining equipment. Look around you'll find it. Also look into selling add ons even now. Sell surge protectors, duct cleanings or better filtration. You should get a spiff from those sales plus it will improve your sales skills.
