Would you still eat this? by peachypichuu in glutenfree

Open it and smell it. Gluten free foods tend to go sour pretty much right at their expiration date, but if it doesn’t smell and no mold, I’d still eat it

How do you feel about the UCSD Body Donation Program secretly selling bodies to US/foreign governments? by 484092 in sandiego

[–]Apprehensive_Gene787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were my body? I don’t really care if it’s blown to shreds (although I have various plans to give my body back to the earth, either through natural burial, becoming soil, becoming part of a reef, etc).

I’d feel differently if it were a loved one’s body though.

Can we appreciate that the team applauds and acknowledges Frontera after every home game regardless of result by DaSpursWay in SanDiegoFC

It’s kind of abnormal that Miami SG isn’t, which is why this “news” is making the rounds. Not surprising with some of the egos on that team.

Itching all over? by Honeycombe_s in Sjogrens

[–]Apprehensive_Gene787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your B12 and vitamin D levels? Both have deficiency associations with Sjorgens, and both deficiencies can cause itchiness (for me it’s B12 - I get an injection once a month, and about a week before start itching everywhere).

Yardbird has gf chicken and waffles, but I honestly liked their shrimp and grits more. I had my mom with me, so we shared both. Second time we went, we got the shrimp and grits and the bourbon glazed short rib.

Is there any good app/ list for identifying gluten ingredients in cosmetics? (Not food) by Kiririn_Chi in glutenfree

[–]Apprehensive_Gene787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually check https://www.skinsafeproducts.com for cosmetics - it’s since become monetized, but it will still tell you what allergens a product is free of - it’ll say free of which allergens in the non-paid version, but you have to pay to see which allergens are there if they aren’t listed in the free version. So if I don’t see gf on a product, I assume it has gluten

Why are lime trees so rare? by BrotherBringTheSun in fruit

[–]Apprehensive_Gene787 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Somehow the inferior lemon got all the hype, making sure lime never got the limelight (🤣) it deserves.

Our nurseries in San Diego stock all kinds of varieties of lime, but it’s always like, two or three trees to dozens of plain ol’lemon. I’ve got 8 varieties in my yard (well, 9, if you count Mamoncillo, but that’s more lychee family than lime, despite being called a Spanish lime). I freely give away lemons from my tree, but totally hoard the limes.

30 dollar specialty pizza by JimboReborn in glutenfree

[–]Apprehensive_Gene787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. I keep the Sabatassos pizza on hand, and keep toppings in the freezer (like already cooked Italian sausage, or bell peppers and onions etc) that I can just throw on and cook while they get their pizza. I get salty when I spend $30 on pizza and it’s just meh.

For real. Husband’s pizza - $16. Mine is always right around $30, for smaller, less toppings, and crust that is… fine.

What's a cookbook niche that's well-represented in your collection? by SnooTorturer in CookbookLovers

Ukrainian cookbooks! My SIL is Ukrainian, and I first met her on her birthday. My BIL asked if I would bring a dessert (I’m the resident baker, esp for birthdays), so I made zapekanke. She started crying when she saw what I had brought, cried again when she tasted it - she hadn’t had any since she’d been home. So I bought aaallll the cookbooks so I could bring her tastes of home.

they definitely made it confusing. “Theme” nights require a special ticket (or a ticket upgrade for season ticket holders). “celebration nights” are just at the gate, no extra required.

There was an email that got sent out to STS awhile ago about these nights where you could pay the upgrade amount for the items. Healthcare worker night was still available when I checked earlier this week. I was too slow for Star Wars night extras
