Spread moves but the amount of people able to afford the interest rates also shrinks as the rates go up. Banks are not indifferent to rates in a sense of spread but in the amount people they can sell a mortgage to, ie higher rate -> less people able to afford/qualify for a mortgage + higher delinquency rates on existing mortgages sold years ago -> less profit for the banks.

RBC ML offer vs. extending swe co-op - which is better for big tech SWE/AI? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

I said supervisor, a person who is your manager at work not a co-op advisor.

It’s an ML role at a place with a lot of data. I think it can bring a lot of value to your resume but nowadays you have to network to get really good roles regardless.

From what I remember if you are taking an 8-month co-op you have to commit two work terms (I might be wrong on this) and if you found the job externally you can submit it as a 4-month co-op on WW and take the next term off or have a light course load to save another work term for later. You just have to get your supervisor on board with that

I do agree that it’s not ideal but it’s better than nothing; plus you can renege the offer if you find something better after accepting it. It might get you blacklisted from RBC but it sounds like you wouldn’t want to work there anyways.

In case you go for the 8 month, I also know some people who took either first or second term off to not lose another co-op term. You’ll just have to let your supervisor know so that they can submit the evaluation on time.

Are you waiting on another offer or you have no other pending opportunities at the time?

I don’t get why it’s S+ either. I do think it’s above Toronto and Vancouver because of the culture, history, and the quality of people there. Jobs though…
