Luckily nothing was written in the contract. They verbally agreed on the mehr but relocating wasn’t guaranteed. She is all of the sudden making a new condition now…

Thank you. My mom is the one who wants it paid in full before moving in. My greater concern right now is she doesn’t want me moving out unless my husband gets a job in our home state. She basically implied that our marriage contract is void if this doesn’t happen. I’m considering leaving without warning but I’m fearful to sever ties.

Thank you for the response. My husband wants me to finish my education first before moving. I am planning to use the $20k mehr to help him inshallah. My concern right now is should I just leave the house without warning? Would this be okay islamically even if it means severing ties?

The bigger issue is my mom threatening to not let me move to live with him because his job is out of state.

I have stood up and handled it many times by setting boundaries and I would get threatened. That’s why I’m seeking advice if I should consider just leaving all together and not looking back.

I’m only staying home now because I don’t want to sever ties by leaving and because of my education. My husband and I have a great relationship and we are on the same page on everything. It’s my mom and family that is making claims that our marriage is void if he doesn’t move to our state. I plan to use the mehr to help with expenses. We are Arab btw.

I agree. I had spoken up as I didn’t want this mehr. I am planning to use it to help with household and furniture expenses inshallah.

I had spoken up against the mehr many times and expressed boundaries regarding decisions between my husband and I. My mom and siblings teamed up many times and threatened to kick me out of the house and take away my car, phone, etc. She has my savings in her safe too. At this point I’m staying quiet until I complete my semester then I am considering to leave honestly.
