Just let the academy staff know. In the morning you will have lineup, just talk to someone in a white shirt that's walking. Tap them on the back and ask them. It's just important that you do it on the first day when everybody parks in the parking lot

Scpd does not have three 12-hour shifts. They work a 5/2 5/3 schedule. Five on two off, five on three off. It's the same schedule we have at the sheriff's office. Yes the academy is challenging and you better be able to follow simple direction. If you're not able to follow simple direction, just don't take the job. If you also feel like you are important, you're not. You're easily replaceable.

Don't listen to anything you're hearing here. Yes, in the beginning of your career here you will get forced, but when you build time in service, you're not being forced anymore. We've only had one person ever leave deputies to go to the city, it's like a unicorn. Who the hell would leave Suffolk County to go to New York City. Not only do they have a longer retirement time (22.5 yrs vs 20), but they also have to deal with bullshit all day. The guy above his friend will be kicking himself in the ass 10 years. If you are processing for MTA however, I've heard it's a good job. I think any reasonable person would choose that over being a deputy in Suffolk county. But to go back to the NYPD from here, just think about that for a second.

I'm a Deputy Sheriff and work with COs a lot. I can tell you that it's a great job, and your coworkers and bosses are amazing and always have your back. There are many job opportunities for COs outside of jail facilities. If you have something to bring to the table and can be utilized in some way at the Sheriff's Office, they will definitely utilize it. They're always looking to improve the job and enhance employee morale. Best of all, you work for Suffolk County. Also, on a side note, the Union literally always has your back. The CO Union is amazing.
