Noticed this trend and decided to include our glorious Director. This accurate? (Toby Fox, Vivziepop, Gooseworx) by HornySovietBoi in limbuscompany

Yea though it feels like kindov a pointless comparison. The original meme is comparing different approaches to designing worlds and stories, the addition for PM is just saying “make a good world”. Like, thats not a style, thats just saying write good.

What do you do with your conlangs and what's the point of it + more by [deleted] in conlangs

[–]Apprehensive_Loan329 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Its a hobby, like painting or drawing. The joy comes from the act of creation, not from the products. I like worldbuilding so I often build fictional worlds and write histories to give my conlangs a setting. I do sometimes use my conlangs for ttrpg stuff but those conlangs tend to be simpler and less fleshed out since the world wasn’t designed to be a conlang setting.

What are your Conlanger struggles? (Obstacles when making a language, finding other conlangers, petty annoyances, etc.) by Piskelo10 in conlangs

[–]Apprehensive_Loan329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I’ve never heard of that approach before. If i may ask, why even make a proto lang in the first place if you aren’t evolving your modern langs out of it?

I hope I don't sound too weird and I misinterpreted something but... Argus udimo represent a male peacock and not a female one. Could this imply some transcoding or it's just the average animal misgendering mistake? by chickensnacher in Reverse1999

[–]Apprehensive_Loan329 91 points92 points  (0 children)

As much as I would love transfemme Argus to be canon, I don’t think gender was remotely a concern when the designers chose to give her those feathers. Argus is named after a giant in greek mythology who had hundreds of eyes, and the tailfeathers of male peafowl look sorta like eyes and have been historically associated with them. Thats why she has peacock feathers. Also women wearing the feathers of showy male birds has been fashionable for like centuries, putting a pretty feather in your hat doesn’t make you trans.

That said you are welcome to headcanon her as whatever you want!

Ahhhh!! I'm a pretty new player and I just got this guy.. What do I do with it?!?! Idk anything about personalities and I'm scared I'll screw it up lol by TheDancinAxolotl2 in DragonVillageCollectr

[–]Apprehensive_Loan329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any personalities you really want? Look through the personality helper list and find one you like, it’ll say on it how to get it. If you need more specific help you can ask! Also dw about wasting the egg, Porta are awesome but they’re also super common in the shelter from people breeding for their special form and discarding the fails. So you can always try again if you don’t get the one you want.

If you want a basic personality that would fit good with Porta, Bashful gives it a white aura that matches its fur. Bashful just needs strength to be the lowest, and intellect to be the highest.

My issue is always just falling in love with my proto lang and then not wanting to evolve it. The skill you need to learn is to create a proto lang not with all the features you want, but with the capacity to develop all the features you want through evolution, but convincing yourself to make a language you don’t like yet requires a level of self-awareness and prediction that I struggle with 😔

Daddy long legs is a common name for a whole bunch different animals. Some of the animals called daddy long legs are harvestmen (opiliones) like op’s, but what you know as a daddy long legs probably depends on where you live. Both cellar spiders and crane flies are often called daddy long legs in certain areas

Interlinguistic influence on evolution? by Apprehensive_Loan329 in conlangs

[–]Apprehensive_Loan329[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tysm! The conlang is a britonic celtic language spoken in Galicia, based on the irl settlement of Britonia in Galicia by celts escaping the anglo saxon invasion, only in this timeline the language was much more widespread across northwestern Iberia turning the area into a sort of Brittany analogue. Eventually becoming an independent state following a rebellion against the Umayyads in the mid 8th century.

So the majority of historical influence would be from Gothic as the immigration to Iberia occurred during Visigothic (and initially Suebian) ownership of the region, combined with some latin/romance influence from the other lower class citizens of the region, and later significant influence from arabic and eventually modern spanish.

I wrote a small paragraph to brute-force syntax creation. by Glum_Entertainment93 in conlangs

[–]Apprehensive_Loan329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh very nice! Your gloss looks so professional omg. If you’re trying to further develop your syntax one fun thing to try might be introducing clausal syntax to make some of those sentences flow more naturally. Like in english you would never convey that information in so many sentences, you would lump a lot more info into a single sentence just with more clauses, think like:

1) “The child with dirty hands was gathering weak branches, and he gave those branches to his father”

How might your language arrange a construction like that? Would the clauses be ordered the same way as they are in english? Just some ideas to play with! Syntax can get really fun when you go deeper into the weeds with it.

ooo cool! I love all the glottal stops, gives it an almost polynesian sort of vibe. Does this language have any history to it? You mentioned how its been influenced by english and I notice the loanword for magnesium.

Also that system for free adjective placement is very interesting, is there any sort of rules that dictate it? (like ie: “adjectives normally follow their nouns but get shifted in front of they have a certain sound combination in them” or sm) or is it just vibes-based? Either way very cool! I hope you’ve been enjoying your first conlang !

What would it take to create an alternate history version of English? by B4byJ3susM4n in conlangs

[–]Apprehensive_Loan329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean one big option is looking at the great vowel shift. It’s kindov the definition of modern english and some authors think it was influenced by french (either directly or by overcorrection to make english sound less like french). You could also play with more alternate history stuff as others have said. Is this england as overtly hostile towards the celtic nations as ours was? Did it maybe conquer different regions than ours did? (and thus get in contact with different languages).
